Day 2 th Wednesday 6 September 2017

2nd Day at West Hill School • First day of term is Wednesday 6th September 2017.

• Year 7 pupils to be on the yard by no later than 8:45am.

• All other year groups will not arrive until after break at 11:25am.

• Year 7 will have an extended form period from period 1 to period 3. During this time they will be with their form tutor going through our expectations, timetable and issued with their pupil planner.

2nd Day at West Hill School • Year7 will also have their photograph taken for their id cards and have their index finger scanned for cashless catering.

• Year 7 will go on lunch at the end of period 3 and will start their timetabled lesson period 4 and period 5.

• Year 7 will not need to bring their PE kit into school on the first day.

• On the 7th September all Yr7 will follow their timetable lessons.

Standards

STANDARDS Classroom Code These are the expectations and standards for every classroom in West Hill School. They are for the benefit of every pupil and are non negotiable.

Readiness for learning • How you present yourself is important. School uniform must be worn smartly at all times.

• Unusual/extreme hairstyles are not allowed. Long hair must be neatly tied back.

• Pupils should be clean shaven and jewellery should not be worn.

STANDARDS Classroom Code These are the expectations and standards for every classroom in West Hill School. They are for the benefit of every pupil and are non negotiable.

Readiness for learning • When moving about the school keep to the left, move quietly and do not run.

• Keep to paths and steps. Wait quietly outside classrooms.

• Be punctual to registration and all lessons.

• Refer to female teachers as Ma’am and male teachers as Sir. Respect the right to learn of every other pupil in the group.

STANDARDS Classroom Code Entering and Exiting Classrooms: • enter a classroom in an appropriate manner when invited to do so by your teacher • only leave the classroom when dismissed • leave in a quiet and orderly manner

STANDARDS Classroom Code When you enter the room, remember to: • remove your outside coat • settle down immediately for an organised start • ensure that your uniform is worn correctly • get out your planner and all necessary equipment • treat your facilities with care and respect

Classroom Code Your learning is our priority and, as such, it is important that you: • listen carefully and follow teacher instructions • put up your hand before answering questions • proof-read your own work • ensure your planner is as well presented as your school books • do not disrupt the learning of yourself or others • embrace the classroom ethos.

Protecting Learning

Guidance on the Use of Personal Mobile Devices • School is NOT responsible for individuals’ Personal Mobile Devices Items are brought to school at the individuals’ own risk.

• All Personal Mobile Devices should be switched off at all times except when explicit permission has been given by a member of staff.

• Must be kept either in the blazer pocket or in a bag.

• MUST only be used as directed by the member of staff and their use • MUST comply with the School's ICT Policies.

Sanctions for the Unauthorised use of Personal Mobile Devices • Pupils will be asked to it turn off in the first instance.

• Refusal or persistent offending, leads to confiscation immediately and kept in the school safe until written permission from parent/carer.

• Not be returned before the end of the school day.

• Repeat occurrences will result in longer periods of confiscation.

Changing assessment procedures – Life Without Levels • National Curriculum Levels have come to an end at secondary as well as primary • No national expectations for KS3 for all schools to follow • All schools in the country to devise their own system • New GCSE specifications in all subjects • New grading system

Changing assessment procedures – Life Without Levels • A*- G has been replaced by grades 9 – 1 system • West Hill System assessment is based on PiXL model • West Hill System uses new GCSE grading system across year 7 -11 • Target grades are set aspirationally each year, significantly above national average progression
