Homework Year 6 children are given learning log homework every Friday to be handed in the following week. It’s best to spread the work out through the week rather than do it all in one go.

It must be completed to an acceptable standard which means that it must be at least as good as the work children produce in class, and written tasks must be completed in blue pen.

There will usually be a maths task, spellings to learn and a Literacy or Creative Curriculum activity.

Mr Heseldon runs a drop in homework club on Monday and Tuesday lunchtimes for children who would like some help with their work.

We have super new journals full of helpful tips to support work at home. Please ensure that journals are signed and handed in each week.

Make sure you know your targets and are constantly striving to achieve them.

Curriculum Overview Year 6 Summer Term 2

English: In our final term in school, we will be using the Hunger Games novel to inspire our writing. Final writing levels will be submitted this month; therefore, pupils should ensure that every piece of writing they do within this topic is of the highest standard, incorporating all the Year 6 skills they have been taught this year. We will also be using clips from the film to support our learning.

Creative Curriculum: Survival/Bright Sparks.

Our final term is action packed - we are completing our work on Survival then will begin our final theme - Bright Sparks. This will unite work on Science, Computing and Technology and will help the children develop their powerful learning skills of resilience, perseverance and ambition.

What have been your best memories of Lomeshaye?

Computing:

The exciting projects this half term will involve designing and coding computing games and using video apps to present work to an audience. In addition, we will learn more about staying safe online.

Job Junction:

This half term sees the launch of Job Junction which is an exciting careers programme aimed at raising children’s aspirations. We will be reflecting on our personal attributes and completing fun challenges and activities. Various professionals will join us in school for our ‘Careers Carousel Day’.

Science - Evolution: Our current Science topic involves learning on the evolution of living things.

We will explore the fossil record and find out about significant people, then consider how plants and animals have changed over time as we learn about inheritance and adaptation. Lots of practical work will help us understand challenging ideas.

Transition Project:

Year 6 teachers and teachers from Pendle Vale spent a day working together on an exciting transition project that all the children will be involved in. We don’t want to give away any surprises so you have to wait and see what it is all about!

PE: This term, children will have a PE lesson at Seedhill to practice athletic events in preparation for Sports Day. In school, we will be focusing on striking and fielding games. Children will learn to ball and bat across a range of sports.

Drama:

We are excited to work with Nicole again as we plan and practise our end of Lomeshaye performance. No doubt you will laugh and cry during our emotional leaver’s assembly.
