World Book Day Costumes Amaze Staff

Easter Preparations give pupils opportunities to reflect, worship and fundraise.

The Spring term has been a busy time in school with pupils reflecting on the season of Lent in various ways. Pupils in Year 5 led junior pupils in a very moving Stations of the Cross service in our church while infant pupils held similar services in school.

Our nominated charity during Lent has been Francis House Children’s Hospice. The organisation provides care for children with life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses. Pupils have been buying knitted Easter chicks raising over £600 for this good cause. Thank you to all who helped raise this total.

Eggs everywhere for lucky pupils Many pupils enjoyed delicious chocolate eggs prior to the Easter break. Some pupils were lucky enough to win one of the wonderful chocolate hampers organised by the Parent Group. Twenty Six other children were presented with Thornton’s luxury, large eggs. These pupils had their names picked from a draw of children who regularly wear full school uniform. In this way the school would like to recognise the efforts made by these children and the high standard of uniform they set in our school.

Reward for young book worms Three children from our reception class have been specially recognised this term for their exceptional progress in reading. These children were rewarded with a trip to Madeleine Lindley Book Superstore where they could each choose a book and special writing pencil of their choice. Many thanks to parents/ carers for supporting children with their reading.

World Book Day 2017 fires imaginations.

Our pupils excelled once again in their creative efforts to celebrate World Book Day 2017. Teachers were amazed by the superb and inventive costumes representing the favourite book characters of the children. Various activities took place during the day where the children could explain their character choices to their classmates. Class parades took place in both school buildings and prizes of book tokens were awarded for the best costumes in each class. Some of the wonderful outfits are shown above. Well done and thank you to all parents/carers who helped the children prepare for this day.

St Clares—North Manchester Athletics Champions

Our Athletics team have achieved a great honour this term. After four years of coming very close, our team were awarded the title of North Manchester Champions in a recent tournament. This is the first time St Clare’s have ever achieved this standard. This also meant that we qualified for the Manchester Finals at the Indoor Athletics Arena for the chance to represent the city. Although the standard was exceptionally high, our young athletes competed with great skill and determination. Overall we finished fourth in the city finals — meaning we finished as fourth best school out of 145 in the city. We are extremely proud of all who represent the school but the achievements of this mixed team is a new high for the school.

Man City Tournament Finalists Our Boys Year Six team represented the school this term at the Manchester City F.C. Premier League Tournament against other Manchester Schools. The boys competed with much endeavour and with great teamwork. They enjoyed playing in the wonderful facilities and finished mid table in their group. As always, the pupils wore their shirts with great pride and conducted themselves with excellent sportsmanship.

Pupils enjoy a ‘Bugs Life’ Children in Year 2 had some very interesting visitors recently when the Wild Roadshow came to school.

Our children got to handle and find out about a variety of unusual and exotic creatures. They came away with a wealth of knowledge to help them with their report writing and great fun was had by all.
