Lomeshaye Life It has been a very busy week in school with the Year 6 SATs, we are so proud of how the children tackled these very demanding exams and know that each and everyone of them have tried their best. While Year 6 have been busy testing our Year 5 pupils have been learning and performing the Shakespeare play Macbeth. Read on to find out more. Year 6 SATs - this week has been a very challenging week for all of the pupils and staff in Year 6. The children have taken examinations in Reading, Grammar, Spelling, Arithmetic and Reasoning (Maths). All year the classes have worked incredibly hard to prepare for these tests and this week they showed just how strong and resilient they are, by approaching each exam with a winning attitude. However, the SATs are a narrow assessment of learning and ability. They do not assess all of what makes each child special and unique. They do not take into account that each child speaks two or more languages or that they love to sing and draw. The tests don’t recognise all of the wonderful skills and talents that each pupil in Year 6 has, but we know all about them. We think each of our Year 6 pupils are utterly fantastic and wonderfully individual. While there are some things that these tests will tell people, they will not tell them all about you. There are many ways of being smart, but there is no way to “test” all of the amazing and awesome things that make our pupils who they are. Year 5 Macbeth—pupils in our Year 5 classes have been working hard this half term on the Shakespeare play, Macbeth. They have studied the text in English lessons and have also worked with our creative partner, Nicole, to develop their understanding of the story. Their efforts all culminated in a spectacular performance today which involved all 90 members of the year group. They were confident and skillful in their acting and speaking roles and showed what great learners they all are. Assessment Week—Next week pupils in Year 3 4 and 5 will be sitting their half termly Maths tests. Please make sure your child gets lots of rest over the weekend and during next week. Ensure that they have breakfast every day so that they can concentrate properly in school and don’t have a day off.
Monday 15th—International Day of Families Friday 19th—Are you smarter than a 10 year old?
Well done to all of our award winners this week. Keep up the great work and be proud !
