Science Newsletter STEM Fashion Week! To celebrate British Science week, we chose the theme Fashion and sustainability. We decided to explore all the STEM subjects which are Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. During fashion week, we had a visitor that came in to show us engineering. We all enjoyed it very much and it inspired us. We were desperate to have another visitor (which we did). As a matter of fact, we had lots more visitors, such as Trashed Coture, Stitched Up, Eva Joy and Wearable Tech. They all were great to work with and inspired us throughout the week.

Our Inspirational Visitors In Years 5 and 6, Eva-Joy came in and we created collages with different materials. Our designs were very creative and unique. Eva is a fashion student and designer who recycles. She made plastic bottles into bags, WOW! We also got the chance to work with Batique artists which was really interesting. Years 3 and 4 had the chance to work with artist Screen Printing Sally which was amazing! We used special inks in vibrant colours to create layers of diffferent prints based on each classes theme. It was so exciting and our finished prints were so simple yet so effective! A very talented weaving artist visited Years 1 and 2 and showed us how to do a very intricate spiders web weave! It was tricky to begin with but by the end our colourful weaves looked fantastic! Our Sensational Themes In Year 6, we were inspired by the Peppered Moth and the effect of the industrial revolution in Manchester. This lead us to generate our theme of nature which we incorporated into all our designs. Rio Carnival was our inspiration in Year 5! We used bright colours and dyed the material we used to create our costumes and head dresses. Year 4 chose sport as the theme. We made a helmet that was decorated with the Great Britain flag. Another table remade some trainers and another made a warm, soft winter coat with a pair of mittens attached! In Year 3T our theme was Ai WeiWei who is a Chinese artist and architect. We used his creations to inspire our designs and focussed our outfits on structure, metal, block colour, dismantling and remaking and newspaper. Recycling was Year 3E’s theme and we made clothes from recyleable materials.
