Friday 31st March 2017 Our News!

A big thank you to those of you who managed to come to the Mother’s Day event. It was a lovely afternoon. We hope that the children managed to give you their flowers too on Mothering Sunday! The children managed to raise a ’huge’ amount for Comic Relief and the brain tumour charity last Friday a well! Well done!

The children have enjoyed going on welly walks around the school grounds to look for signs of spring starting to bloom. They drew some lovely drawings of what they found and wrote some super labels too.

We have been showing off our fantastic writing skills by writing our news, all by ourselves. We hope to bring these news books home after Easter, so that each weekend, we can write our news for you!

They have loved pretending to be spring cleaning in our home corner and I am sure they will be experts and happy to help you at home over the holidays now too!

In mathematics the children have enjoyed playing shopkeepers in our snack shop. They have had to come and read the prices and pay using a variety of coins for their snacks and milk. They are getting the ‘hang’ of putting the highest value coin in their heads first and then counting on to check the total, for e.g. 5p……6, 7,8p.

In RE they have enjoyed reading the stories such as ‘Guess how much I love you?’ and ‘Love Splat.’ They drew beautiful pictures of all the people who love and care for them.

Outside we have been practising our counting and number recognition! If you know your numbers to 20 how about seeing if you can recognise some numbers up to 50 or even100?!

STARS OF THE WEEK The teachers would like to choose all of the Ducklings from each class to be our stars for their superb performances in their class assemblies.

A big well done to you all!

OUR LEARNING Easter, New Life and Spring On our return we will explore how the children have celebrated Easter and what it means to them. We will also find out about how other countries and people around the world celebrate Easter . We will be writing all of our Easter holiday news too!

In Mathematics we will be continuing our work on money and will be setting up a little minimarket in our roleplay area, so that we can pay for items using different coins, practise adding two items together to find the total and working out if any change is needed.

We will also be recapping over 2D and 3D shapes and exploring making repeating patterns with them. We will also look at different types of patterns such as number, letter, sound and body shape patterns.

We will be finding out which animals come from eggs and will be doing lots of egg themed activities. Does anybody have any frogspawn which we could have in school to observe it grow and change?

Creatively we will be printing patterns to make Easter eggs and will be using our fine motor skills to make baskets for our eggs, choosing whatever materials and tools we like.

On our first day back we will be starting our new RE topic of ‘The Church.’ We will be having an art morning whereby we will be creating collage crosses for a new display in the hall.

We have also arranged for a vicar to visit our school on the Wednesday to talk about the Christening ceremony, as well as visiting a local church to look at this special place.

As part of our gradual transition into Year 1 we will begin this important process on the first day back by changing our home time routine. At the end of the day we ask you to wait outside by the usual doors and we will bring the children out to you. Thank you for your help with this and remember we are still there to speak to you if you should you need to.

Knives and Forks Practise using your knife and fork each mealtime over the holidays! Some children are experts at this! Some need a little more practise!!

Toys Please can children refrain from bringing in toys from home as we do not want them to get lost or broken. Many thanks.

Spare Uniform We have virtually no spare clothes, in particular socks and underwear left. Please can any that have been borrowed be brought back to school? Also if you are having a clear out and have any unwanted items, please could you donate them to us?! Thanks.

DATES Easter Holidays School reopens on Tuesday 18th April at 8.55am EYFS and KS1 Film Night (children only) Thursday 20th April Church Walk and Visit Friday 21st April 9.30-11.30 Proposed visit to Carleton St Hilda’s Church Please see your child’s class teacher if you will be able to help and walk with us to the church and back. Letters will be sent out during the first week back. There is no cost for this trip.

Spring and New Life Morning Wednesday 26th April We are going to have a visit by some lambs from a local farm.

Please see your child’s class teacher if your child has any allergies that we may need to be aware of.

Old Holly Farm – Consent forms Please can all forms and payment for the trip be in by Thursday 27 th April

Old Holly Farm Trip Thursday 4th May Wellies, a waterproof coat and drink of water needed. A packed lunch will be provided by school.

TALK HOMEWORK Talk for Numbers Find as many different ways to make an amount using different combinations of coins.

Make a toy shop with your toys. Give them different prices, buy two items and find the total cost. How will you pay for them?

Make some repeating patterns by painting, drawing or printing, using different colours, shapes, numbers or letters.

Make simple words with the new sounds and others previously sent home.

Write sentences or captions with words featuring that letter for e.g. ‘ear’ I had a tear in my eye. / ‘air’ My hair is long. Write sentences with the tricky words in or look for them in your reading books.

Please try to read your reading book every night.

Go all creative and decorate a hard-boiled egg for our Easter Egg competition. Use whatever theme you like, for e.g. a dinosaur in a dinosaur world or s spring themed animal like a lamb! All entries to be in school by Wednesday 19th April at the latest!

Ask your family what you will be doing to celebrate Easter Go to the library and find some books about Easter and Spring Find out which animals come from eggs.

Make a recipe using eggs – scrambled eggs, bake some buns!!

Plant some flower or vegetable seeds in a seed tray and care for them. When they have grown bring them into school and we can plant them in our vegetable patch or flower pots! Let’s see who has green fingers and can grow the most!
