Friday 3rd March 2017 Our News! Wow! What a busy few weeks we have had and a great start to our topic learning all about dinosaurs. A big thank you to all of you who have sent in amazing dinosaurs, dinosaur stories, dressing-up costumes and even volcanoes to help us with our learning. The children had an amazing day with Alex from the Bolton Museum to find out more about the different dinosaurs that lived millions of years ago. They particularly loved being able to handle real artefacts. Alex meets many children everyday with his work in the museum, but was amazed by the amount of facts that the Ducklings were able to tell him! He couldn’t believe that they were only in their first year at school! So we were very proud of them! We have enjoyed reading, performing actions and accompanying with instruments along to the story of Dinosaur Roar! We have also learnt some great dinosaur songs and are getting really good at acting like different dinosaurs! Outdoors with our friends, we have used 2D and 3D shapes, as well as junk materials to create different dinosaur pictures. The dinosaur topic has been perfect for our comparing and measuring in mathematics. We have been comparing and ordering the dinosaurs according to their length, height and talking about the distance that they are away from each other. We used building blocks to measure their length and height and counted footsteps to measure distance between them. On Shrove Tuesday we enjoyed making and eating pancakes as well as finding out why this special day is celebrated and by whom. The children loved reading the story of ‘The Runaway Pancake’ and joining in with the repeated phrases in this story. Ask them to retell it to you!
