Pupil Leader Evaluation

At St Anne’s we work together, learn together, play together and care together in God’s love, to enable each unique person to achieve their full potential St Anne’s RCP Pupil Development Plan Update 2015-16.

Please read our evaluations for the academic year 2015-16. Post cards detailing our main priorities for 2016-17 will be available for governors and parents on 3.11.16.

School Council Review 2015 – 2016 Children present (year 3 – year 5): Bradley, Joyanna, Emile, Daisy, Przemek, Alexandra, Ciara and Lewie.

What did your role as school councillor involve?

Comments from all of the children •

Meeting as a group with Mrs Wheeler to discuss issues in the school.

•

Looking at documents for Mrs Orrell to give opinions and ideas.

•

Working with the sports leaders, to decide how £2000 should be spent to

improve the playground.

•

Getting the opinions and ideas of children in classes and reporting these

back to the group, Mrs Wheeler and Mrs Orrell.

What did you enjoy about your role as a school councillor this year?

•

All of the children enjoyed the responsibility of being a school councillor.

•

Their favourite role throughout the year, was working with the sports

leaders in small groups to create proposals of how £2000 should be spent on playground equipment. They enjoyed the process of working with their team to research and select the equipment, making their posters and putting together presentations for Mrs Orrell and the whole school.

Comments from all the children •

The children felt that the new school councillors should met more regularly

to share the ideas and concerns of their classmates.

•

They felt it was important that the new peer mediators continue to complete

activities and check things for Mrs Orrell, so that she hears the children’s point of view.

•

They suggested that the new school councillors could meet visitors to the

school and take on responsibilities during school events (as well as the year 6 children), during presentation evenings, parents meetings, assemblies and fund raising events.

•

As they enjoyed their project with the sports leaders they hoped that the

new school councillors would get to take part in a similar activity with another group in the school, such as the Chaplains or ICT ambassadors.

•

It was suggested that the ideas and decisions that the school council make

or help make be put on the school newsletter. .

What did you enjoy about being a peer mediator last year?

All the children commented that they enjoyed helping other children and making sure that everyone was happy at school and had friends to play with.

Comments from all of the peer mediators •

As there are different playground times for upper and lower key stage 2

more peer mediators are needed.

•

Current peer mediators to teach and train the new children.

•

Sean suggested that at the start of next term, the current and possibly

new peer mediators should prepare an assembly or presentation for each class explaining why the peer mediators are in the playground and should be respected and taken seriously.

•

Leana suggested that they had a selection of resources that they could

access, so that they could refill their bags when needed, instead of bothering a teacher.

•

The children also asked if their role could be extended to monitoring the

stairs at the end of break and lunch times, to ensure children are walking safely and sensibly in school.

•

As a group, we recapped the protocol for when they are struggling solve a

problem and what they are and are not allowed to say and do when helping children.

This will need to be discussed again before training the new peer mediators.

•

Amelia suggested that they could tell teachers about children who listened

well and worked hard to solve their problems and be friends, not just speak to teachers about the problems they could not solve on their own, as these children may deserve gold awards for their good behaviour.

Mrs Regan and Miss Irene would like to thank our Chaplains who have now moved on to their respective High Schools. May they continue to serve their new communities with the same enthusiasm, dignity and respect that they showed during their time here at St Anne’s.

Librarian Evaluations 2015-16 Emma - Successes during 2015-2016 We have succeeded with working with the children by helping them choose books that are good for their age. Over time the shelves can get messy but we always tidy them up. We loved getting the new books we had chosen out of our library budget. We were responsible for putting them onto the system, labelling them and putting them on the correct shelves for children to find quickly.

We advise all students to take a quiz after they have read their books.

Freya -Successes during 2015-2016 We have succeeded in encouraging the children to be more engaged in reading books. Also, challenging the older kids to try our new harder, interesting books. It has been a blast seeing all the children enjoy these books. We have put levels on the shelves so they take a quiz and the teachers tell them their level so they can go and get the right book that they are able to read. We have had a lot of donated books which we really appreciated. We enjoyed being responsible for choosing these books and putting them on the system and labelling them for others to use.

Plans for 2016-2017 

We are trying to encourage children to read a wider range of books and try something different.



We also hope to set up some reading sessions with the younger children in reception and nursery.



We are planning to organise some reading competitions and maybe set up an after-school reading club.


