Spring 1 in 4W Literacy
This term we are reading various play scripts and focusing on the role and effect of each character in the play. The children will identify play script features and include these correctly in their own play script. In the nonfiction unit, towards the end of the term, the children will write an explanation text. Science
In this term we will consolidate our Electricty learning that we carried out before Christmas and look forward to a ‘Thinking Scientifically Week’ in Spring 2, as well as celebrating National Science Week. Computing
The children are going to become musicians! 4W will use websites, apps and computer software to create their own piece of backing music.
Music Miss Relton, the music teacher, has now gone on maternity leave, but year 4 will continue their ukulele lessons with a new teacher, every Thursday.
Maths
In the spring term 4W will be recapping their previous knowledge of time, learning how to read a 24 hour clock and will solve time interval problems. They will learn how to calculate area and focus on fractions and decimals. There is always a big push on practising and learning the times tables up to 12 x 12 and their corresponding division facts. Topic In history this term 4W will be looking closely at the Romans. Including the rise and fall of their empire, researching key historical figures and even what life was like as soldier and a gladiator! Religious Education Giving and receiving is the title of our new RE topic, where the class will discuss their experiences of giving and receiving at home, in school and in the religious community. We will look at scripture and identify how it helps us to show love to all and not limit our love.
PE The children will attend swimming sessions at Abraham Moss on Wednesdays and have PE lessons on a Friday afternoon, in the school hall. Some dance lessons will be taught by a Dance teacher from a local high school.
