Compile a leaflet to illustrate and explore different elements of the Solar System. (Guided)
Write a biography about the astronaut Neil Armstrong.
Write a biography about the astronaut Valentina Tereshkova.
Write a biography about the astronaut Tim Peake.
Draw a line graph plotting a space ship’s journey from the sun through the solar system. At what point on the graph would it reach the different planets of our solar system? (Guided)
When we celebrated New Year at midnight on the 1st January 2017, some parts of the world had already done this. Some parts had yet to celebrate. Make a table to show how far ahead or behind different capital cities from each continent were, whilst we were celebrating. Using the paper plate templates (provided), create an ‘Earth’ landscape with continents and oceans. Include any significant geographical features (mountains etc). Use whatever medium you think will give the best 3D effect. Make a model of a space craft. It could be based on a real one or use your imagination to create your own. Use a range of different materials to construct it.
The diameters of which planets added together would be closest to the diameter of the sun? (You can use the same planet more than once!)
Write the number of the year of birth for each member of your family. Eg Mrs Beveridge was born in 1986 (!!) MCMLXXXVI.
Record the different phases of the moon over the next month. (Guided)
Using Purple Mash Mashcams, put yourself into the Astronaut and write a speech bubble about what you can see from space.
On a clear evening, go with an adult to an open area (eg Williamson Park). Identify and photograph the constellations of Orion and the Plough.
Talk to an older relation or friend and find out what they remember about the first man on the moon (July 1969).
Using the paper plate templates (provided), create a ‘Moon’ landscape with craters and mountains. Use whatever medium you think will give the best 3D effect. Make a gingerbread person and ice them to look like an astronaut. You could also make a moon to go with it!
