TASTER DAYS

WORK EXPERIENCE UPDATE 

Career Talks It has been a busy few months for career speakers. We have welcomed estate agents, careers speakers in sport and leisure, public services and computing. The uptake of these talks is extremely important emails will be sent to tutors regarding timetables, please forward interested students to the art barn where these take place every other Wednesday.

If students are unsure of their career path send them along for inspiration and ideas.

Taster Days We ran two taster days in the month of May We took a group of 8 students to Nova training to take part in tasters in plastering, Plumbing, Painting and decorating and Bricklaying.

We also took over 20 students to Sandwell College to take part in tasters in travel and tourism, Public services, childcare , motor vehicle and engineering.

Work Experience Update We currently have around 80 year 10 students attending work experience from 18th –22nd July. The students completing a placement need to arrange a pre visit with their chosen placement. Could you encourage your students to call their placements to arrange a pre visit before their placement starts. The students will then be visited by the careers team during their placement.

Every fortnight there will be a different career speaker in school



In November year 11’s will take part in a mock interview day



Our students will be one of the first in the country to use the new career platform PLANit global connecting them to real life local employers



A trip to the world skills show at the NEC

During the month of June our year 10s were involved with a enterprise day.

The whole of year 10 split over two days worked with over 40 business people from over 20 different organisations including Santander, Tesco and Boots.

Students worked through hints and tips to make them more employable with their facilitators.. Activities included CV workshops, interview role plays and the stages of applying for a job.

Work related learning embedded in the classroom Here at the ace academy we believe work related learning and enterprise will not succeed by just stand only events. Teaching staff Photo Caption here embed employability skills into their lessons that can be transferred to the real world. Our students will gain many skills during their school day such as communication and interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, negotiation skills and organisational skills.

Career staff training and development The career staff this term have attended Aimhigher annual conference, Prospects summer briefing and many networking meetings to engage local and national businesses with the school. The events that staff have attended will help careers education thrive at the Ace Academy
