NOVEMBER 2016 Welcome to Longbenton High School After years of planning and a few false dawns I am proud to write the first newsletter to parents from the new Longbenton High School. Our new multi million pound school has given our community a fantastic environment, one that is drawing rich praise from the many visitors we have already had. We have featured on ITV news, in local newspapers and magazines as well as attracting thousands of views to our video tour on our Facebook page. We have been visited by civic dignitaries, senior employees of the local council and were overwhelmed by how many prospective parents and students came along to our Open Event. After all of our planning it has been wonderful to see how incredibly smoothly the first half term in our new home has gone. Students love the new facilities and being a single community under one roof, instead of needing to walk across the large site from lesson to lesson. We are now learning all of the new names for the areas in the school and getting used to how best to move from one zone to another. The students have been fantastic and have responded by respecting each other and respecting our environment. This is not just a new building but a step change in the education provision for our community. We are determined to make the most of all of the opportunities this brilliant new school gives to us. Expectations are sky high and the students have responded positively to all of the challenges that we have set for them. We have a brand new logo, new uniform, new motto and a bright new future.

Non Uniform Day On Friday 18 November we are holding a non-uniform day in support of Children in Need. We ask for a voluntary contribution of about ÂŁ1 to give to the charity. We hold one nonuniform day per term to support charities, and we use some of the money raised in each to support our link charity Team Kenya. Head Girl and Head Boy Longbenton High School has its very first Head Girl and Head Boy. Students had to complete a nomination form and then followed extensive deliberations between the Year 11 Pastoral Team and Senior Staff. Eventually Lauren Archer and Cameron Reed were named. As part of their responsibilities they have to organise Student Council and speak at whole school events. They are fantastic ambassadors for our school.
