Lomeshaye Life Well done to all of the children and staff for starting the year in tremendous fashion, I think it is time for a nice week off to rest. Our two learning themes this half term have been incredibly successful and we the children have really enjoyed taking part in some new and exciting activities. Year 3 School Linking— this week pupils in Year 3 started a special school linking project with Year 3 pupils from Park Primary School in Colne. They made a visit to the ACE Centre in Nelson to meet the children and to find out more about them by working and playing together. This year the children from both schools will take part in some joint learning and will visit each others schools to make new friends and learn about different people and their culture. Parents Evening— thank you to all of the parents and family members that attended our parents evenings this week. It was lovely to see you all and I hope that you found your discussion with class teachers useful. We will hold another, slightly longer, parents evening in the Spring term but in the meantime if you have any questions or concerns please make arrangements to see your child’s class teacher at a convenient time. Parental Questionnaire and Prize—thank you to all of the parents that completed our parental questionnaire this week your views and feedback are very useful to helping us to improve at Lomeshaye as well as for celebrating the things that you think we do well. All of the completed forms are sent off to Lancashire County Council for analysis and everyone that took part was entered into a prize draw to win a ticket for a family of 4 to Thornton Hall Farm. We made the draw during assembly today and the winners are: Matin Ishaq (6 Rowan) and Sannat Ghulam Akhtar (3 Oak). Cracking Clubs at Lomeshaye— at Lomeshaye we try to provide an exciting range of before and after school clubs as well as clubs over lunchtimes each day for children to enjoy. Just take a look at what has been on offer this half term and look out for letters advertising clubs after the holiday so that your child can take part too. We have had these clubs in school over the last 6 weeks: art and craft, football, fencing, maths, writing, healthy heroes, breakfast, board games, social skills, EAL, basketball, table tennis, cooking, dance, homework and gardening. WOW Group— A new and exciting community group called Women of Whitefield has been set up with parents and staff from Lomeshaye, Whitefield Infants and the local community to help to improve and empower ladies and families in our local area. The WOW group are going to be planning many events over the coming year, some of which relates to school and some charity work too. Mrs. Safdar is our WOW representative in school and if you would like to know more about the group you can contact her and maybe find out how you can get involved too. In November the WOW group are having a fund raising afternoon for cancer charities by holding a Pink Party. This will take place on 25th November from 1.15-3.00pm, please look out for the details. Uniform— Over the last few weeks it has come to our attention that uniform standards are slipping. Several children, especially girls, are coming to school in brightly coloured socks, the wrong school shoes and many of our boys are having lines and patterns shaved into their hair. None of these things are part of our school uniform. We have clear rules on school uniform which are detailed in the school prospectus (this can be viewed on the school website.) After the holiday Mr. Nuttall and Mr. Heseldon will be keeping a very close eye on the way children are dressed for school to ensure that our high standards are maintained. Parents will receive phone calls and text messages if their children attend school wearing incorrect uniform.
