Lomeshaye Life There’s only one week left until our half term holiday and the pupils and staff at Lomeshaye have been working harder than ever. Read on to find out about what has been happening over the last week. Year 5 Science—this week pupils in Year 5 welcomed one of our school governors to their science lesson. Mr. Leighton was asked to join the classes to help with their learning about life and changes. Mr. Leighton was particularly helpful for the children in finding out about his life as an older adult and how things have changed for him from being a young man. The children and staff really enjoyed listening to Mr. Leighton and asking him questions, Miss Saleem was inspired by his words of wisdom and said, “I could listen to him all day!” While Mrs. Mansell was mesmerised by his tales of World War Two. Thank you for helping Year 5 with their learning Mr. Leighton. Family Friday— today has been our first Family Friday learning event in school. Year 6 pupils have invited their family members to come and take part in a Roald Dahl themed tea party to celebrate the learning that they have completed during our whole school Roald Dahl theme. Cakes have been baked and costumes made for the special occasion and we hope that our families are proud of the new skills their children have learnt over the last six weeks. We hope to have many more Family Friday events throughout the year from all of our classes, so please look out for your invitations in the future. Assessment and Mentoring—this week has been assessment week in school, all pupils have been tested and assessed in reading, writing and maths and next week they will be having mentoring meetings with their class teachers to discuss the progress that they have made this half term and to set some targets for their learning in the run up to Christmas. Please talk to your children and look in their journal to see which targets they are working on next so that you know what you could be helping with at home.
Harvest—Many thanks for your wonderful donations to our harvest collection. Everyone has done a superb job bringing packaged and tinned items for us to distribute to members of our community. Your generosity is much appreciated and will make a real difference to many people in Nelson.
