FURNESS LIONS CLUB CHEQUE PRESENTATION TO ROOSE PRIMARY SCHOOL. 29TH SEPTEMBER, 2016. Lion President Jim Rhodes, with fellow Lions Terry Yates, Sheila Rockley, Ted Rockley and Karen Yates presented a cheque to the school for £300 after school teacher Angela Bell contacted Furness Lions for some assistance with funding for their ambitious year 5 outing: cruising on Coniston, followed by canoeing over to Peel Island in the middle of the lake. The year 5 pupils have been reading “Swallows & Amazons” in class, drinking in the adventure stories found in Arthur Ransome’s book. Although the outing took place last week, the children have been left with some vivid memories of their wonderful day out. After the presentation the pupils and Furness Lions members watched the video of their adventure, which had been filmed with a drone, and accompanied by appropriate music. The children were wearing their Swallows and Amazons headgear and sat quietly in front of the screen, absorbed by the footage of their amazing adventure. At the end of the film all the children were eager to relate to the adults how much their exciting adventure had meant to them.
