Year 3 parent information

Year 3 – Class Information Reading Books are changed on Monday and Wednesday each week, but it must be brought to school every day.

Please help your child to practise their reading book every night (just a few pages or short story) and sign and date in the blue record book, showing the page reached or book finished. There is room to write a comment about your child’s reading if you wish.

Library books will be changed every Wednesday. If your child hasn’t finished reading their book they will be able to renew it.

PE lessons are held on Monday and Thursday. Please make sure that your child has the full PE Kit in school, kept in a PE bag, hung on their coat peg.

PE Kit consists of: House t-shirt, shorts, pumps or trainers, sweatshirt, jogging bottoms (for outdoor activities during Autumn and Spring term). Please can your child also keep a spare pair of socks in their PE bag.

Homework will be given out every week. Please ensure that your child completes this and returns it to school on time.

Please make sure that your child has the equipment they need for Homework – a pencil, ruler, glue stick and crayons and a quiet place to work, at a table if possible.

Sometimes the Homework set will be an activity for your child to do with you e.g. an activity linked to Topic Work or a Maths game to play, rather than a formal piece of work.

In Year 3, the children will have the following pieces of Homework to complete:  A piece of Maths or English homework which will be given on Monday and due in the following Monday  A Weekly Spelling List. This will be given on Monday and the children will be tested every Friday.

Please practise Multiplication Tables (2x, 5x, 10x, 3x, 4x, 8x) and Number Bonds regularly. Our aim is for children to know their multiplication facts and number bonds with instant recall ie give an answer within three seconds.

Year 3 Swimming This year, Year 3 will be having Swimming Lessons as part of their Physical Education at Farnworth Pool.

The lessons will begin in Spring Term and we will travel by coach from school.

Your child will need to bring a swimming kit – trunks or a one-piece swimming costume and a towel.

Please can you help your child to learn to dry themselves independently without help and to be able to undress and dress themselves quickly.

Please take your child to the swimming pool at some time before Christmas, so that they are familiar with going into the water in the small pool, if they do not already have swimming lessons.
