We have had great fun today doing our Sports Relief mile to raise money through your kind sponsorship. Thank you very much for your support; we are hoping to have a more accurate assessment of the money raised when it is collected next week.

The Lowestoft Journal has visited the school this week to take some photos and to talk about the improvements that have been made. An article should be going in either next week or the week after so keep your eyes peeled!

Easter Egg Raffle Please could I remind you that the Easter Egg Raffle will be held during assembly on Tuesday 22nd March.

Any donations of Easter eggs or other chocolate goodies would be gratefully received Raffle squares have gone home in book bags with a price of 20p for each square that you would like to purchase. Funds raised for the school will go towards our library refurbishment. Thank you for your support.

500 Word Story Competition Winners Each week we will be printing one of the 500 word competition winners’ stories. This week it is Jacob in Year 5, who won with his entry ‘The Lightning Strikers’. It is a real tale of resilience, relationships and risk-taking!

It was another training session for the Fish Bay Flounders on a damp and stormy night. The Flounders all loved to play football but this latest season had not been a lucky one and the team were on a losing streak and feeling gloomy.

Coaches Mitch and Carson called an emergency training session at the wet and muddy home ground in Roydon to help the Flounders before the next big match.

As the rain poured down onto the pitch the team ran, jumped, dribbled and kicked through the puddles and the thunder started to rumble.

While Mitch and Carson were getting refreshments, something extraordinary happened. A flash of lightning struck the pitch and players. All the boys quickly fell to the floor but luckily none of them were hurt. Feeling confused, they got back on their feet. Lambert said, “Getting struck by lightning – just our luck!”

The next day was match day for the Fish Bay Flounders against the Pakefield Pikes on the pitch that got struck by lightning. It was due to be a tough match with the Pikes at the top of the league. But the team’s luck began to change and they won by a whopping 14 – 0! This was amazing – all of the players had super football powers. Had the lightning cast a magic spell on their home pitch? The next home matches were the same with massive wins for the Flounders. Jonny’s sensational striking, Lambert’s dazzling defence and Hamish’s magical mid-fielding were just some of the team’s super skills since that stormy night.

But it wasn’t long before they discovered that their super powers did not work for them when they played away. And the boys from Royden had to really fight to even draw against their opponents. At their home ground they were unbeatable, but away, it was a battle. A battle that the Flounders began to enjoy and soon they started to learn to play as a team. They didn’t feel gloomy anymore and knew they could be unbeatable at home or away with or without super powers!

The team began to win all of their matches and reached the Cup Final at the end of the Season. The big day came and it was another away game. The team were nervous

Topic Fair and Reception Afternoon

Our half-termly topic fair will be held on Thursday afternoon at 3pm. This half-term, our topic has been focused on one of the world’s religions. As before, please collect your child from the classroom if you would like them to show you around the fair. I know that they are very excited to share their learning with you. Reception children will also be holding a shared session in their classroom on Wednesday at 3pm. but excited and knew they had to give it everything against the Wobbleswick Wanderers! Lambert, Jonny, Hamish and the rest of the team had a nail biting match that ended with a penalty shoot-out. Striker Jonny took the final penaty and booted it in the back of the net! The Fish Bay Flounders had won the Cup but had also realised they don’t need the luck of a lightning strike – they just need to work as a team and enjoy the game.
