Type Here Running Club Running Club Milestones Sub Title In the autumn of 2014, a small group of staff and students ran around the astroturf to see if they were up to getting beyond the school gates for a run around our local parks. Since then, we have had 88 different people try us as a club and collectively covered over a thousand miles. Our biggest turnout was 33, whilst a cold, wet, winter run, once saw only 5 runners! Some people quickly decided that running is not for them and have not yet returned for run two, whilst others have stayed with us and become committed members of Running Club.

As Running Club approaches its 50th run it seems appropriate to mention some of the regular runners who have reached the milestone runs of 10 and 25 runs.

The 25ers can be spotted wearing the red Running Club badges, they are: Grace McGarvey (the first to get her 10 and the closet to getting her 50!) and Arran Baldwin, both in year 8.

Staff 25ers are: Miss Koerten, Mr Wiggans, and, as of this week, Mr Woodcock.

The 10ers can be seen wearing the black Running Club badges, they are: Georgia Lobley, Olivia Heeley, Megan Bate, Lorren Simpson, Lauren Scott, Holly Goulding, Jess Lai, Amy Wilcock and Chloe Taylor from year 8.

Toireasa Turriff, Grace Taylor, Katie Wright, Abigail Gregson and Tabitha May from year 7.

Staff 10ers are: Mrs Jackson, Mrs Murray, Miss Lindley, and Miss Ascroft.

Congratulations to these runners on their commitment.

Thanks also goes to the staff runners, without whom Running Club literally could not run!

The Friday run is a great way to end a busy week in school, and even if ever we don’t feel up for it, we always feel better for doing it.

New members are always welcome. Please see any of the above staff or pupils for details. Pictures and stats are also available in the SCAMPS area of the school website.

Public Services Walk Navigational Skills Well done to those who passed the Outdoor Expedition part of their GCSE for Public Services, testing map reading, compass bearings and overall knowledge of walking safely in the countryside. We were expecting cold and icy, but it had poured down with rain the night before so we had wet, boggy and very, very muddy. Prize for falling into the mud, goes to Mrs Long. It was a good job that we all had changes of clothes as most of us were pretty muddy and wet when we finished.

Digital Leaders iPad Training On Friday 26th February our Digital Leaders held an iPad training session for the local community. The training session commenced at 11:00am until 1:00pm, in the school library. The objective of the session was to educate the local community in the following areas: · Correctly starting up / shutting down devices · Personalising your own settings · Downloading applications · Using applications · Device security · Browsing the internet Upon arrival, local residents were welcomed with light refreshments and then sat down with our digital leader team. Some local residents brought their own devices and others borrowed iPads from the school; they all received expert training on both.

Residents commented on how much they enjoyed their visit into school and would welcome another in the near future. The students who took part in the session were polite, helpful and accommodating. Overall, the event was a huge success, thoroughly enjoyed by all participants. Both the local community and our digital leaders are eagerly anticipating the next event.

World Book Day 2016 On the morning of Friday 4th March, staff and Y7 and 8 students, raided their fancy dress boxes and allowed their creativity to come to life as they prepared for World Book Day celebrations!

Throughout the day, students in Y7 and 8 took part in reading and creating activities in all of their subjects across the curriculum. These included: writing ghost stories, designing book tokens and taking part in the Bumper Book Quiz!

Whilst the students were busy with their activities in lessons, our in-house fancy dress judges made their way around school to see all of the wonderful costumes the students were modelling. There were three winners chosen from each group and their prize awaited them in assembly.

During lunch time, students were given the opportunity, by Willy Wonka himself, to find a golden ticket in the library. The lucky winners received a free book of their choice.

Finally, after five jam-packed lessons of fun, everyone met to celebrate the achievements of the day with a joint assembly. Prizes were given, photos were shared and memories were made. Thank you to everyone who too part. We look forward to next year.

Make It Challenge BAE Systems On Tuesday 9th February we took a team of Year 8 and 9 girls to the Make It Enterprising Challenge at Ribby Hall. Each team had to design and present a concept for a rescue vehicle to a panel of BAE Judges. Jess Walmsley (Year 9) won the Outstanding Individual Award. “We really enjoyed ourselves at the BAE Systems Make it Challenge. It was a great experience that introduced us to the world of manufacturing and it is safe to say that we are all considering a career in manufacturing now.

It was a great day and we all loved the experience, talking to different people from BAE Systems about their jobs and what it is like. Even though it was at some points stressful, and frustrating, a the end of the day we really enjoyed ourselves.�

Library News World Book Day in the Library On Friday 4th March, the Library was full of year 7 and 8 pupils in fancy dress . When students took a book out they could choose an envelope. Depending which they picked there was either a golden ticket inside or a piece of paper saying they were unsuccessful. Dr Walmsley, dressed as Willy Wonka, was in charge of the winning golden tickets which enabled the pupils to get a free book up to the value for ÂŁ6.00.

Congratulations to the twenty students who found the famous Golden tickets when the borrowed a book from the library stocks. We’ll be in touch soon so you can choose your book!

34 books were taken out and the whole event was a big success !
