It gives me great pleasure to contribute to the first edition of Tettenhall wood news which will be published on a termly basis.

I am very proud to tell you that this has been put together by a small team of pupils – Alex Shevchenko, Joshua Mills and Thomas Walsh with supervision from Edwina Shinton (Blue 4) and David Reader (Red 1).

As you will see it paints a comprehensive picture of how busy everyone has been at Tettenhall Wood School and the wonderful range of experiences pupils have been involved in. I must mention the school’s Sports Week as the standout event this term. This was the perfect showcase to display the skills and talents of our pupils and to enjoy with them the enormous pride they showed in participating and sometimes winning events.

It was very pleasing to see the support for the week from parents and governors and may I take this opportunity to thank you for your support and positive comments.

I hope that you have as much satisfaction that I have had in reading this first edition of Tettenhall Wood News and I’m sure that you would wish to join me in saying a big ‘Thank You’ to the editorial team for producing such an outstanding first edition.

Finally I would like to wish both staff and pupils who are leaving us at the end of term, every future success. May I wish you and your family a safe enjoyable summer and I look forward to working with you in the year ahead.

Primary Class Visits – 25th June It was an absolute pleasure to spend the morning at Tettenhall Wood School, I feel very privileged to have shared some time with the children and teachers whilst they had their numeracy, literacy and swimming lessons. I am very proud to be a part of the Governing Body, because everyone works so hard.

I visited Blue 1 first, the children were having a literacy lesson – some of the children were reading and explained what was going on in the story whilst looking at the pictures. There were two children listening to music and encouraged to say key words and do the actions.

As we approached the end of the learning activity, the children had lots of notice that the lesson had come to an end and that swimming was next. I could feel the excitement in the air, the children had been working very hard in preparation for the swimming gala. All the swimmers swam really well and there was lots of encouragement from their peers. We are absolutely blessed at TW to have an outstanding swimming teacher – how fantastic to have a school in which every child is able to swim – quite an achievement.

My next visit was to Blue 4, a numeracy lesson was taking place and the children were learning about coding – sorting – counting, and there was a lot of gluing, sticking and writing numbers.

The class was lovely and calm and the children were really focused on their tasks.

I then visited Green 1, their lesson was in the swimming pool and the children were having a sensory swim – the ratio in the pool was 1:1. I witnessed the “Intensive Interaction session “which comprises of the adults mirroring the children’s movements, then the roles eventually reverts to the children mirroring the adults. This process engages the children in learned behaviour through a number of dynamic actions, and is highly beneficial for our children. Both children and teachers learn from each another through these mirroring actions and progress is made over a period of time resulting in higher levels of communication though the processes is both relaxing and fun.

My last class visit was with Blue 3, a numeracy lesson, working with a number line up to 20.

Firstly the numbers had to be sequenced in the right order and then some addition could take place. Sums were worked out on a white board and was very impressive.

I could see the children really concentrating on their work and selfcorrecting without any prompting, which was lovely.

After a very productive morning in numeracy and literacy it was time for lunch. It was great to see so many of the children having tasks to do; laying the table, working out how many cups, plates, knives & folks were needed and being and feeling like they were making useful contributions. I decided to join Blue 2 for lunch and I must say just how very well behaved the children were and what beautiful manners they had for each other.

Lots of “please” and “thank you”, it was very humbling to see the care they show for one-another. It was nice to see that the children enjoyed their meal and to have a choice to have more lunch if they wished to.

We have amazing children at Tettenhall Wood School but equally we have amazing teachers and teaching assistants who are totally dedicated and enthusiastic.

Drayton Manor School Trip.

 Thank you Happy days for providing all our children with the opportunity for this day trip out to Drayton Manor.

On June 3rd we went to Drayton manor. Tettenhall wood school and some pupils from wood Thorne school went on a big coach to get there. I saw the new Winston ride being construction , it was not finished

yet. Children really enjoyed the ben 10 ride, But some children didn’t like the g force ride it was too fast.

Some children have been to Thomas land.

They went on some rides.

Some children like the storm force 10 and

got very wet.

By the end of the day most of the children got tired.

Wolf Mountain.

All children have been given the experience to take part in many different physical activities outside of school.

Children from Tettenhall have all been to Wolf Mountain Indoor Climbing and Caving Centre. They have been re-

ally enjoying it there; they all seem to show some interest there and would like to go again.

Wolf Mountain will give your

child good Climbing Skills.

Special Achievement Well done to all our children for working very hard this year and adapting well to the changes of our new school.

Ellen has worked hard in her social communication group working on turn taking and sharing information.

Zakariya in September was thought to have no or little speech. Since January Zaks speech has developed and he is now singing and saying words all the time.

Grace won the award for best effort overall during sports week (Female).

Rupert has swam a mile and is the third person to ever do this at TWS.

Aronas won the award for best effort overall during sports week (Male).

Some of our students have been going sailing in Galey.

They have been really enjoying it and learnt to steer the sail

amongst other skills while on the lake. They showed some interest being there. Thank you to the staff at the Staffordshire

Swimming Club for their help and support.

Residential Holidays Most children from Tettenhall Wood School have been on a holiday during this year. Blue 1 went to kingswood and did a adventure rope course and nature walks. Blue 2, blue 3 and blue 4 went to wales and had their holiday in a caravan.

They went swimming had a picnic and camp fire on the beach and went to a farm to see animals.

Green 1 went with green 2 and Green 3 to wales they had a lovely time and very hot nice weather.

We were disappointed that not all pupils were able to participate in a residential this year, due to a combination of staffing issues, lack of parental response and individual needs. However we are delighted to inform you preparations are already in hand early next year for these pupils.

Official Opening On the 5th of July it was the grand opening of our new school. It was open

by Greg Silvester, special Olympics GB gymnast and councilor Phil Page. We had lot of visitors who looked around the school and they love it.

Woscars Pupils and staff from Tettenhall Wood School attended the Woscars 2013. Where all the schools in Wolverhampton, take part in an award ceremony celebrating the achievements of teachers and learners media creativity.

The event was held at the science park where our school won 3 awards. One of them was for the Learning Technologies Team and was named The Robot.

Forest schools.

Tettenhall Wood News

This term Green 4 & Red Sensory have been going to Forest schools. All the students have accessed the activities.

Tarenbir has particularly enjoyed climbing the trees in the woods and Ryan put his creative flare to good use by painting all the staff and students with mud! Ashpreet enjoyed learning how to roll down the hill!

Before this it was some of the children from Blue 3 and Blue 4’s turn they loved making dens, looking at the story going on a bear hunt, tree art and playing different outdoor games.

Green 3 visit Bantock House.

This is about what just happened in couple of weeks ago how green 3 went to Bantock Park and the museum.

Sports Week In sports week we did swimming gala, mini Olympics, football, rounders' ,climbing up tower, and running. The India team won and all the children had fun.

Summer Fayre The Report what have we done at the Summer Fayre.

The story of what just happened on the weekend afternoon?

On Saturday 15 June 2013 At Tettenhall wood school Place at Summer Fayre Time at 1:00pm to 3:00pm This is the weekend we have done for the Summer Fayre at 1:00pm closed at 3:00pm.

It was that busy stayed open to 3:45pm.

We raised money for the outdoors furniture and how much more we made it was £1.246.96.

We like to thank you for kind donation and taking part on the day.
