Success, nothing less!

Around The Academy.... Fairtrade Conference Ten fantastic Fairtraders, accompanied by Mr Smith, participated in the Blackpool School’s Fairtrade Conference in Julyy at the Imperial Hotel. p It was an excellent opportunity o to find out more about m Fairtrade our Fairtrade around the world and the extent of ou work carried out here at Aspire Academy. The highlights of the day were a chocolate tasting session and the smoothie maker powered by a bicycle. Our students were even able to Skype a fourteen year old boy called Samuel who, with the other eleven members of his family, worked on a Fairtrade farm in Ghana. Aspire student representatives Adam, Hannah, and David all agreed that the experience had been worthwhile and an insight into making trade fairer.

Student Of The Year Congratulations to Mrs West who has been recognised as Student of the Year on her course at Blackpool and the Fylde College. Mrs West collected the award after completing the first year of a three year degree in Health and Childcare Studies.

What Is An Aspiration Day? D ? You might have read about our Aspiration Days in these newsletters and on our website, but what are they? They are part of the curriculum that allow our teachers to deliver Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHEE), Citizenship, and Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CIEAG). The lessons can be about lifeskills such as online safety, substance awareness, or delivering First Aid, but they can also include reward and educational trips away.

WELL DONE EVERYONE! What a fantastic first year in the life of Blackpool Aspire Academy. It is really pleasing to ‘headline’ this edition of Inspire with my BIG THANK YOU to so many people for their significant contribution in making this first year so memorable. The students have been so understanding and responsive to our new key messages throughout the year in regard to our BACK to BASICS agenda. They have always worn their new uniforms with pride, been increasingly respectful and tolerant, participated willingly in additional activities, enjoyed their lessons and delivered some excellent outcomes. They now feel extremely safe and settled in their ‘new world’...and even smile frequently! Also, I must thank all the staff for their endless support, and to you parents/carers at home. This has been an awesome year; we can now build on it and be even better. Enjoy a wonderful holiday and I look forward to keeping you ‘in the news’ from September. Mr C Simkins Academy Principal
