Friday 22nd January 2016 Our News!

Firstly, a big ‘Thank You’ to all parents who have returned the booklets, ‘All about me, at home and out and about.’ It has been lovely to read all about the fantastic things they do with you at home and will help us greatly when planning their next steps of learning. The children have been busy practising their formation of the letters j, v, w and x and reading and writing captions and words with these sounds in. They have also been writing lists of their favourite toys. Lots of the children are now confidently writing the ‘tricky’ words – I, go, no, to into and the. In our creative area the children have made lovely Jack Frost pictures and are now working together in groups to create some lovely winter collages. Thank you for all the bits and bobs you have collected and sent in. Mrs Wills has been developing their fine motor skills by using scissors to create snipping snowflakes to add to our lovely winter displays. Ask the children to sing and dance along to the winter and Jack Frost songs we have been learning! In Literacy the children have enjoyed reading Kipper’s Toy box by Mick Inkpen. Ask them to retell the story back to you in their own words. We have been learning some new songs about a Jack-in-a-box and a robot and creating our own actions to go with it. Ask them to perform them for you! They have all been busy painting their favourite toys for our toy shop. Thank you to those who have sent in a photograph of them with their favourite toy. The children love to talk to their class about this! We have been busy in Mathematics using 1p, 2p and 5p coins to make different amounts and this week counting backwards from 10, then 20, using real objects to find 1 less each time. We have been exploring taking-away with real objects- toys in the toy shop, knocking over skittles, eating orange segments and so on. Some of us were ready to write/draw their own taking-away sums and problems. Well done! Our PE this half term is all based around the story “Kipper’s Toybox”. During our warm up we pretend to be different toys; a train, a car, a robot, a Spiderman, a dog and a silly sock thing. Each one of these develops different ways of moving around the hall using different muscles and getting our heart rate up so we are ready to do our exercises. Our main is catching, throwing and aiming this half term. We are practising throwing under arm accurately stepping forward with our opposite leg. Why not ask the children to demonstrate and practise at home. It can be quite tricky at first. We also practise looking where we are throwing to improve our aim and think about the direction and force of our throw. It all sounds very complicated but we have lots of fun and have lots of time to practise it inside and outside during our learning time.

STARS OF THE WEEK Harry McLaughlin for fantastic effort with his reading and writing and Macy Sumner for trying her best and doing lots of learning at home. Amelia Brady for being nurturing, fun and enthusiastic Duckling and Erica Bromell for making super effort with Maths and feeling confident to have a go. Our next news letter will be on Friday 5th February and will give details about all the fun activities we have planned for the next few weeks. Any questions please don’t hesitate to ring, email or come and see us. Staff email: Mrs Catterall m.catterall@carletongreen.lancs.sch.uk Mrs Lees s.lees@carletongreen.lancs.sch.uk
