Pupil Premium refers to children who currently are or have been entitled to Statutory Free School Meals. It also includes children who have a parent in the armed forces and children who are in care or have been adopted on or after 30th December 2005.

At Walmsley Church of England Primary School the care, achievement and progress of our children is at the heart of all we do. We also place great emphasis on developing life skills for our children, such as, resilience, independence, responsibility and British Values. Our children are taught by teachers who inspire a thirst for knowledge and a love of learning. We develop “the whole child” and ensure that all of our pupils can achieve their full potential irrespective of their social or financial background.

A variety of different needs are deciding factors in how we spend our PPG. We look at the needs of individual pupils, including academic achievement, social communication, self-esteem, physical development, well-being and their own interests and talents. We also look at the needs of groups of children who may require intervention and we consider needs across school. We regularly look at the achievement and attainment of every child in school through a range of assessments including teacher assessed work, test based assessment, book monitoring, provision map meetings and pupil progress meetings.

Impact of the past years PPG expenditure Attainment and achievement of our PPG children who did their Key Stage 2 SAT’s in May 2015.

We had six PPG children in year 6 of which one was special needs, which equates to 17% of the total cohort.

Level 4 Our combined level 4 in reading, writing and maths was 83% compared to National which was 70%.

Our reading was 83%, national was 83%.

Our writing was 83%, national was 79% Our maths was 83%, national was 80% Grammar, spelling and punctuation was 83% compared to a national of 81% The combined in school gap comparing non PPG with PPG children was 9% compared to national where the gap was 15%.

Level 5 Our combined level 5 in reading, writing and maths was 50% of our PPG children achieving a level 5 compared to 13% nationally.

Our reading was 67%, national was 34% Our writing was 83%, national was 22% Our maths was 50%, national was 28% Grammar, spelling and punctuation was 83%, national was 43%.

The combined in school gap comparing PPG with non PPG children shows that our

PPG children achieved better by 6% whereas the national gap shows non PPG children achieving better by 16%.

This we believe shows the impact that our strategies have upon our PPG children.

This is further borne out by our average point scores. When we compare our school PPG children against national non PPG children we find the following: Our combined score in reading, writing and maths was 30.5, national was 29.5.

Our reading was 30, national was 29.8 Our writing was 31, national was 28.9 Our maths was 30, national was 29.8 Grammar, spelling and punctuation was 33, national was 29.8 We beat national figures in every measure.

Curriculum focus of PPG spending 2014/15  Continue to ensure all children achieve at the very least their expected progress in English and Maths o Continue to develop a fluent handwriting style o Enable all children to reach age-appropriate standards of spelling o Continue to focus on formal grammar teaching in order to support the attainment of our children. o More specialised resources to support phonics 
