A Happy New Year to all our families. I hope you have managed to recover from the festive season. The staff at Reydon Primary School were very happy to see the children back eager and ready to learn.

This term promises to be another busy one with trips, sporting events and Parent Cafés arranged. Please keep checking your children’s bags for relevant letters and reply slips and see our Diary Dates section on the reverse of this newsletter.

Please can I also ask you to check that your child is in the correct uniform and has a PE kit in school on the appropriate day. Several children are now wearing unsuitable school shoes and I would like to maintain the high standards of dress and behaviour that we expect from the children at Reydon Primary.

Easter Dates In an amendment to the term dates that were issued last year, the last day of term before Easter is Thursday 24th March and not Friday 24th March as advertised.

Bingo Night

Important Dates for the Diary

Please join the Friends Of Reydon Primary school for a family fundraiser Bingo Night at the Pavilion, Southwold Common, on Friday 29th January at 6pm. Play ten games against your friends to win fabulous prizes.

Wednesday 20th January – Year 5 trip to Dunwich -Year 6 indoor athletics at Water Lane Sports Centre -Parent Café for Year 1 2.30pm Friday 22nd January – Non-uniform hospital themed day in aid of the Suffolk Accident and Rescue Service Friday 29th January – The Friends of Reydon Primary Family Bingo night at the Pavilion, Southwold Common at 6pm.

Tuesday 2nd February – Year 6 basketball tournament at Worlingham -Year 6 SATs information evening 6pm - Open afternoon for Year 1 2.15pm -3.30pm Wednesday 3rd February - Parent Cafés for reception and Year 6 at 2.30pm Friday 5th January – Year 4 Football at Red Oak Monday 8th February – Parent Café for Year 5 Thursday 11th February – Topic fair (Years 1-6) and Open afternoon for Reception 2.45pm

Tickets are available from the School Office and the Pavilion and are priced at £6 for adults, £5 for children or £20 for a family ticket including sausage and chips. Younger children who can't play are welcome and additional sausage and chips can be purchased in advance for £3.50. There is also a vegetarian option. Please check for letters in bags.

The invitation is open to family and friends of the school, the more the merrier so please spread the word. Funds raised will be used to reenergise the school library.

Reception Dinosaurs

Menu Changes There will be a change to the menu next week with ‘Favourites Day’ on Thursday being Chicken Burgers or Cheese Whirls. The roast dinner normally served on Thursday will be moved to Monday instead.

Talk 4 Writing Our reception children have been herbivore dinosaurs this week trying some unusual ‘vegetation’ such as fennel, coriander, mint and baby spinach. The children certainly showed their ‘risk-taking’ learning behaviour in trying some new things!

Autumn Term Attendance Winners – Year 3

Reydon Primary School staff attended training for a national scheme called Talk for Writing on Friday.

Talk for Writing enables children to imitate the key language they need for a particular topic orally before they try reading and analysing it. Through fun activities that help them rehearse the tune of the language they need, followed by shared writing to show them how to craft their writing, children are helped to write in the same style. Schools that have adopted the approach have not only increased their children’s progress but have found that children and teachers alike love it.

At Reydon, some of your children have already started this process and are learning actions to help them retell and imitate the features of particular text types. By all means, get them to retell a story to you at home! These oral stories will then be used to create the children’s own versions which they will use to produce longer pieces of writing.

Attendance Issues

Well done to Year 3 who were the class with the best attendance last term. What a healthy lot!

We were delighted that there were only four absences during the first week back across the school. Unfortunately our attendance figures have dropped significantly over the last term due to illness and holidays. I must remind you that holidays taken during term time cannot be authorised as they impact significantly on your child’s learning. Please support us in ensuring your child is in school every day and if you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Scriven, our Inclusion Manager, for further advice.
