How to support your child’s learning at home Homework

Please ensure that your child reads for at least 10 minutes every night, and records what they have read in their reading record.

Year 5 children are given learning log homework every Friday to be handed in the following week. It’s best to spread the work out through the week rather than do it all in one go.

Spring Term 1

Maths:

Creative Curriculum: English: – Pendlefolk Ourselves

In our English lessons we are exploring Our creative curriculum theme is based figurative language in poetry, and are on our local area and our familiar generating similes, metaphors and landmark – Pendle Hill. We will be personification. Geography:

We will be developing our numeracy skills this term by looking at negative numbers in context. We will also develop our place value knowledge further through solving a range of problems involving numbers with up to 3 decimal places. Children will also be able to apply their measuring and shape skills when thinking about the distance we will travel on our walk around Barley or possible shapes we may see whilst there.

Using Digimap and Google Maps to develop mapping skills will help us when we visit the area around Pendle Hill. We will learn how to read 6 figure grid references and how to understand a key.

Art: in Art lessons we are learning to develop landscape compositions, inspired by the work of local artist Donald Holden. We will develop sketching and painting skills and use mixed media collage techniques to add texture.

Visits and Visitors: This half term we will visit Barley and walk from the bottom of Pendle Hill to Aitken Wood and the sculpture trail. Look out for a letter full of detail to help you prepare for the country walk. Remember to wrap up warm!
