DECEMBER NEWSLETTER 2015 Hello, What a lovely month we have had; it started with our Rye Remembers, a touching opportunity to share with the children in KS2 their learning about WW1 and has ended with a brilliant week of Christmas performances. Thank you to everyone who has supported us at these events, from the ‘Friends of Rye Primary’ and their superbly organised Fair, to those who accompanied us on the ‘Great Expectations’ parade, as well as those who have provided costumes for the children. I am sure you will agree that the children have been delightful. Their behaviour and manners were noticed by the staff at The White Rock, who were full of praise. It has also been a pleasure to hear so many of you give positive comments and tell us how much your children have enjoyed the opportunities they have been given; that and the smiles on the children’s faces make all the organisational arrangements worth it! Take care over the holiday, wishing you a happy one and we will see you on Tuesday 5th January 2016! Jane Howard

Attendance Percentages since September 2015 Thank you for your support last year in raising attendance. We are constantly trying to improve our attendance which remains below the national average and thank the new PTA for their funding support in giving the winning class £10 each week to bank for their own financial management decisions. We will therefore publish the class percentages on each newsletter for your information. Please help us by ensuring your child attends school at all times unless they are too ill to do so. Well done to Clownfish, Sea Turtles, Lobsters, Stingrays, Jellyfish and Dolphins for achieving 95% or above. Minnows

Suggestion Box

Reading Books

You may have noticed a yellow box outside the main office! This is a suggestion box to help us to improve reading at Rye Primary. You may have a suggestion about our Greedy Reading scheme, the children’s books they take home, or our Snuggle Buggle / Chrysalis Capers /Words with Wings sessions. Please write any comments or constructive criticism on a piece of paper and post it in the box.

There has been some confusion about which books children should be taking home from school! Here is our expectation: Children in KS1 should have a phonics book, a banded book (with a coloured sticker) and their own choice of bool to take home to share with parents / carers. Try to read a mixture of theses books over a week. In KS2, some children may have a banded book to take home. All children should have a book of their choice from their classroom that they can take home to read independently or share with their adults.
