NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER 2015 Hello, Our focus on reading continues and we have been very pleased with the impact this is already having on the progress and attainment of our children. We have introduced a certificate each week to accompany the weekly Greedy Reader Award. Look out on the website for a photograph of our weekly winners, this will also be celebrated on the Greedy Reader board in the foyer. We know that the enjoyment in reading is increasing due to the Education Futures Trust visit to Rye Readers with their Learning Ambassadors. During this visit one of our Year 6 boys said ‘ I used to play on my X-box, because I didn’t like reading, but now I choose to read a book, because I do!’ Just what we are hoping for; not a race, but developing a real love of books and joy in reading for pleasure. I hope the Clubs Event encouraged you to sign your children up for a new skill or experience. Being aware of a new opportunity can help children to develop in a direction they had not previously considered and we are lucky to be able to offer an increasing range of clubs, which could not all be represented on Friday; chess, art, reading and computing. Many of our clubs run due to their leaders volunteering their time freely, for this we are eternally grateful. A huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who has been supporting us through the Parental Engagement Programme, this will become a really positive way of working together for the benefit of every child in school, whilst continuing to enhance communication. Attendance Percentages since September 2015 Thank you for your support last year in raising attendance. We are constantly trying to improve our attendance which remains below the national average and thank the new PTA for their funding support in giving the winning class £10 each week to bank for their own financial management decisions. We will therefore publish the class percentages on each newsletter for your information. Please help us by ensuring your child attends school at all times unless they are too ill to do so. Well done to Clownfish, Sea Turtles, Lobsters, Barracudas, Cuttlefish, Killer Whales, Stingrays, Jellyfish Sharks and Dolphins for achieving 95% or above. Minnows
