Knights and Castles Unit Two Spring Term 2016
Areas of Learning As SCIENTISTS year 2’s will be investigating forces and the physical act of pushing and pulling. They will also be observing the growth of seeds.
Year 3’s will carry out an investigation with magnets.
AS TECHNOLOGISTS we will learn how to plan design and build castles using recycled materials. We will use our art skills to add details to our castles. At all times we will evaluate what we do and make improvements. When our castles are finished we will use our computing skills and send the Roamer through the maze to rescue the princess who is trapped in the tower. As GEOGRAPHERS we will locate castles around Britain using Google earth and focus
our studies on Skipton Castle. AS HISTORIANS we will create a timeline which follows the theme of Knights and Castles. We will look at Castles around Britain and Spain in detail. As MUSICIANS we will listen to music and comment on its composition. We ill begin to use tuned instruments to make simple piece of music. ARTISTS we will learn how to draw from observation by sketching castles. We will create some colourful wax resist pictures and make simple tapestries by gluing, stitching
and weaving. As Gymnasts we will work on apparatus developing our balancing skills and sequencing movements. As ATHLETES we will develop our skills in running at speed and jumping a distance.
IN PSHE w will learn about freedom and how important it is to make decisions that we have thought about.
In SPANISH we will study Spanish Cities and significant Spanish buildings. In R.E we will study the teachings, beliefs and practices of religions of the past. MATHEMATICS We will be following the Curriculum 2014 for Mathematics. The emphasis will be on: Money, measures, shape and space, time, data handling and fractions. We will practise
mental arithmetic every day. In computing we will be focusing on computer science and we will learn how to programme our own game. COMMUNICATION: READING, WRITING, SPEAKING AND LISTENING We will read a variety of books and talk about what we have read. We will develop our writing skills through our topic on Knights and Castles. We will develop our speaking and listening skills through questioning and debates in P4C and PSHE. OUR SCHOOL DRIVERS develop personal, learning and thinking skills. we will learn to be:- independent enquirers, creative thinkers, reflective learners, team workers , selfmanagers and effective participators. The key elements of our school drivers are that our children will become learners who understand their roles and responsibilities within a community and the wider world.
As LEARNERS we will ask and answer questions about ethical Issues which arise in Philosophy (P4C) and Circle Time (PSHE). We will learn that it is always appropriate to ask for help and guidance from our friends, teachers and families. We will develop group success criteria to help in our lessons and to check our own and others work. We will complete our learning log tasks. As people who ENJOY LEARNING we will find information from a wide range of sourcesbooks, discussion, the internet, drawing, painting, music and pictures. We will present our work in a variety of ways- writing, drawing, painting, sewing, role play and discussion. Sometimes we will work in pairs or groups and by our selves.
