Friday 27th November 2015 Our News!

The children enjoyed anti-bullying week especially the story about Billy the Bully! They each made a helping hand and decorated it. On each finger they wrote the name of someone they could talk to or ask for help if they felt someone was being unkind to them. Come in and see them! It was lovely to hear that the children felt that there were no bullies in their class, but they know what to do if ever they need help. Ms Fitzgerald a parent and midwife came to visit us and to talk about her special job. The children were brilliant at thinking of lots of questions to ask her and listened beautifully. Following on from this the children have loved playing in our new role play area, the baby clinic, taking ever such good care of the babies! It would be lovely if children could send in photographs of themselves when they were babies to go up in our baby clinic. Next week we are going to be visited by a police officer Sergeant Whittaker. All this talk of different jobs has given the children the idea of thinking about what they would like to be when they grow up! We have enjoyed reading and retelling the ‘Whatever Next!’ story, all about a bear that goes to the moon. The children have used props to act out the story, ordered and sequenced events from the story and been fantastic writers, writing lists of what they would take to the moon if their bear was going! In mathematics the children are getting a good grasp of the 2D and 3D shape names and are beginning to describe them or identify them by their different properties, such as, has curved faces, can or can’t roll, has a triangle shaped face and so on. They have been using 3D shapes and construction equipment to build models, in particular, lots of rockets to fly to the moon! Outside they have worked in together in groups to create large scale rockets to take Baby Bear to the moon. The 3D shape junk model rockets that the children have made in the workshop area are amazing! Some of them are hanging on the display in the front entrance to school. Come and have a look! We have all done very well with learning our sounds and tricky words in phonics and are getting better at blending the sounds together to read words. Please keep learning any sounds or tricky words that you are unsure of and keep putting the sounds together and practise blending them. Our Christmas performance is coming along nicely. The children have been practising their actions and lines on the stage and are enjoying learning the songs and dances. Thank you to all of those who have already brought in their costumes. Please can we have any outstanding costumes by Wednesday 2 nd December please, ready for our dress rehearsal! Please see your child’s class teacher if you have any concerns. Thank you to everyone who attended the Physical Development session after school on Monday. A number of handouts have been put on the Ducklings Class webpage about how you can help at home with this.
