How to support your child’s learning at home:  Listen to your child read for 10 minutes every day.  Help them to learn their times tables.  Ensure that your child completes their homework.  Provide your child with a quiet place to work/read.

Don’t forget that your child’s PE kit should be in school for the duration of each half term.

Homework goes home on a Friday and it due in by Tuesday.

Spellings go home on Friday to be tested the following Thursday.

Curriculum Overview Year 4 Autumn Term 2

Literacy:

The focus for our Literacy work this half term is stories set in an imaginary world.

This will provide the children with lots of innovative ideas and experiences to include in their own writing. Children will be using Alice In Wonderland to help them structure their own stories set in imaginary worlds in terms of settings and characters.

To encourage children to take ownership for their own learning we have been focusing on their individual roles and responsibilities within the classroom. They have created their own targets and worked together to develop Class Charters.

Maths: Throughout this half term we will be learning how to use partitioning to double and halve decimals. We will use grid method to multiply 3 digit numbers and calculate and measure the perimeter of 2D shapes.

Together we will use and apply our newly acquired skills, to solve mathematical problems.

Science: In Science we will be investigating materials and their properties. We will discover and act out how particles are arranged in a solid, liquid and a gas. We will also carry out an investigation to answer a question based around different types of materials.

Visits: This half term children will visit Victoria Park to take part in a study of their local environment. We will see how the park has changed since our last visit in September.

P.E. Creative Curriculum: Inspired by our class novel, children will design and create their own diorama of an imaginary world. They will use different textures and materials to create a 3D effect.

This Half Term we will be continuing to develop our skills of co-ordination and balance through dance.

Please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit with their name inside, and that it is in school for every lesson. Ideally PE kits should be left in school and only taken home during holidays No jewellery is allowed during PE lessons.
