How to support your child’s learning at home To help your child further in their education, they must be doing the following activities at home. 





They must read for 10 minutes each night to an adult. The adult must then fill in their reading journal.

Practice times tables. By the end of year 3 your child should know their 2, 3, 4, 5, 9 and 10 times tables off by heart.

Each child has a home school journal. These must be signed by an adult each week and be in school every day.

Mrs Asghar is testing the children each week on their times tables.

Please do not allow your child to start learning a new timetable until you have had a message in their journal.

Don’t forget PE! PE kits should be in school every day and jewelry must be removed.

Curriculum Overview Year 3 Autumn Term 1

Maths:

Creative Curriculum: Murder Mystery In this topic the children will be learning about what it takes to be a detective. They will be doing lots of problem solving activities which will require them to use their logic. This will also promote collaborative work in the classroom.

Science: Bones In science this half term we are studying bones. The children will be turning into doctors to diagnose broken bones, be able to use the correct names for the bones, understand the importance of the skeleton and know how we grow and move.

Working with Nicole We have been very lucky this half term and have been given the opportunity to work with Nicole. She is going to be working with each class every week. During these sessions she will be teaching them about drama skills.

The children are going to be learning about measuring. Year 3 will look at measuring length, capacity and weight.

They are then moving on to learn about time. Please encourage your child at home to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes and know how to add on 1 hour and take away 1 hour.

Creative Curriculum: Christianity As part of the whole school theme on diversity, year 3 will be looking at Christianity. We will be learning about how Christmas is celebrated around the world, the Christmas story and the celebratory events such as Advent and Christingle.

English: During the first few weeks of this half term the children will be studying mystery stories using Scooby Doo as a stimulus. They will develop their understanding of mystery story formats and characters before writing their own tales of mystery. This will also include a focus upon the use of direct speech and it's punctuation.
