Friday 13th November 2015 Our News! The children were all very excited to share their half-term holiday news and Bonfire Night and Halloween experiences with each other! They all settled in again fantastically after a week off school. Well done! Mr Ball, our class Governor, visited the Ducklings to tell us all about his job as a fire fighter! We thought of lots of questions to ask him and some of us were able to try on some of his special uniform and equipment! Also, a big thank you to Mrs Shanbhag, who came to talk to us about the Hindu festival of Diwali and how she and her family celebrate it. Look at the Ducklings class page on the school website for more details and the photographs. We have thoroughly enjoyed learning all about the history behind Bonfire Night and the character of Guy Fawkes. The children loved getting messy making paint splatter pictures for our bonfire night skies and using their fine motor skills to make Catherine wheels with glitter and sequins. They have enjoyed singing rhymes and songs about fireworks. Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks was our inspiration for our firework dances in PE. Come and have a look at them on our school media screen in the entrance hall, very soon! We have seen some lovely writing from the children about how to stay safe on Bonfire Night, messages in Diwali cards and labelling their drawings of how Diwali is celebrated. The children have enjoyed learning about 2D shapes. They have enjoyed searching for different 2D shapes on shape hunts around school. They have explored sorting the shapes by name and by the number of sides and corners they have. They are also beginning to describe some of their features, such as ‘has only straight sides.’ Ask them to tell you the names of the 2D shapes they know. The children have also been using the shapes to make super rocket pictures. Some of the children have also made lovely shape pictures on the Clever Touch boards. A big thank you for all your generous donations to Children in Need and Help for Heroes. The children looked fabulous dressed as their heroes! STARS OF THE WEEK Oliver O’Neill for his amazing knowledge of 2D shapes and Alfie Warren for being such a kind and caring friend Our next news letter will be on Friday 27th November and will give details about all the fun activities we have planned for the next two weeks. Any questions please don’t hesitate to ring, email or come and see us. Staff email: Mrs Catterall m.catterall@carletongreen.lancs.sch.uk Mrs Lees s.lees@carletongreen.lancs.sch.uk
