Year 2 Half Term Homework Meet the Grammar Gang! In Year 2 there is a high emphasis on the children using the correct terminology when discussing and using grammar. To help your child remember the Year 2 grammar we have introduced the Grammar Gang! So far we have learnt about Veronica Verb, Naomi Noun and Adam Adjective. Below are some games we play in class to reinforce what each member of the Grammar Gang does. We would appreciate your help to support the children to continue learning the Year 2 grammar at home this half term. Veronica Verb- This game is just like Simon Says! A member of your family acts as Veronica Verb and call out verbs (doing words) for the rest of the family to act out. Remember they must say Veronica Verb says …… at the beginning of the sentence. If they do not say Veronica Verbs says……, but you follow the action then you will be out! Naomi Noun- Choose a member of your family to be Naomi Noun. This person then thinks of a person, a place or a thing. Naomi Noun then says “I am thinking of a noun” to which the rest of the people playi ng say “is it a person, a place or a thing?” you then get 10 questions to figure out what noun they are thinking of. Adam Adjective- this is another guessing game. This time whoever is playing Adam adjective thinks of something, this could be an object, animal or cartoon character? Adam adjective then describes it to the guessers e.g. it has 4 legs, it is black, it has a long tail etc.
Spellings It is extremely important for children to continue learning spelling over the holidays. Therefore I have attached the everyday words the children need to learn by the end of Year 2. We would be very grateful if you could begin learning these spellings at home with your child. There will be no test but these words will appear on their weekly tests after half term and are also likely to appear in the SATS spelling test. These words as stated are ‘everyday words’ meaning that they are words the children will find useful to know when writing on a daily basis. Group 1 spellings- please begin learning everyday words 6 onwards. Group 2 spellings- please begin learning everyday words 2 onwards. Group 3 spellings- pleased begin learning everyday words 5 onwards.
Thank you for your support.
