School Welfare Information Letter.

Parents - School Parking Dear Parent, We all strive to set a positive example to our children. Your children and other pedestrians are being put at risk of being killed or seriously injured by drivers who park or drop off on the yellow markings outside the school on Crescent Avenue.  Pedestrians, in particularly children should be able to cross the road outside their school without having their safety compromised.

Your children need to be able to see clearly in both directions to be able to cross the road safely and drivers need to be able to see them.

You may think that you are a responsible driver and this does not apply to you. But if you park or drop off on the yellow markings outside the school, you can block the children’s view of oncoming traffic, making crossing the road unnecessarily hazardous. The signs very clearly state no parking between 8-9.30am and 3-4.30pm on the single yellow lines and between 8am and 5pm on the zigzag lines.  We are asking you to think about child safety, before one is seriously injured or killed.

We have been instructed to report illegal parking on the Manchester City Council website ((this includes reporting the make, model and car registration number). If this behaviour continues, you could receive a fixed penalty notice (fine) and/or points on your driving licence. Cars parked illegally St Anne’s is a good school – OFSTED 2013.

this morning included; a blue Mercedes, Nissan Noke, small blue 4X4, a black Audi Q5, white Seat, Vauxhall Corsa. Thank you to all those parents who have taken notice of previous letters and now park a little further away from school, it is much appreciated.

Pupil Lateness Yesterday and today we have had a large number of children arriving late for school. Class doors open at 8.45am and close at 8.55am when registration and lessons begin. If your child is not in class by the 8.55am bell then they are late for school. Once the class doors close, all late children must be taken to the school office where they will receive a late mark and you will be asked to complete a late slip; to avoid this please be on the school playground for 8.45am when the doors open. 

When pupils arrive late, they miss out on essential instructions given at the beginning of the lesson. This can significantly reduce achievement, regardless of academic ability. Your child may also feel awkward arriving to the classroom when everyone else is settled. Furthermore, when one pupil arrives late, it disrupts the entire class and the teacher – everyone’s education is compromised.

There continues to be a problem in school which needs every family to be proactive in checking and combing their children's hair and everyone else in the household.

Medicines in School I thought it timely to clarify the situation with regard to the administration of medicines in School. The general national situation is that:- Parents are responsible for their child’s medication. Staff in Schools have no contractual obligation to administer medicines.

Having said that, we are happy, within reasonable bounds, to administer medicine at lunchtime if absolutely necessary. Any medicine administered this way MUST BE prescribed by a Doctor and come with written instructions from the parent, with the bottle/container clearly St Anne’s is a good school – OFSTED 2013.

Such medicines will be kept in a locked cupboard in Mrs. Curley’s Office and administered by a First Aid trained member of staff. If children are on a course of antibiotics but are well enough to attend School, the normal frequency of doses is 3 times per day. The “middle” dose can be administered at home at the end of the School day in most cases. Please check with your doctor on this. This will save us considerable time and paperwork if this can be arranged, rather than sending the medicine to School. If 4 doses are needed per day please contact us. (We are happy to give the second dose during the School day).

Behaviour Policy Included with today’s newsletter, is a copy of our Parent Friendly Leaflet about our revised Behaviour Policy. This policy is a result of suggestions from pupils, parents, governors and staff who attended our behaviour workshop before the summer term.

To complement our rewards systems some staff are trialling an online system called ‘ClassDojo’ with pupils. ClassDojo encourages pupils to earn behaviour points for reward; pupils/parents will be given a personal online login so that they can view their child’s achievements each day. We will be trialling this system until October when we will evaluate the effectiveness of the system with staff, children and parents.

Year 6 Congratulations to all our Year 6 children who have made a wonderful start to their last year at St Anne’s before moving to high school next year.

Their behaviour and commitment to work has been outstanding and they are all eager to take up pupil leaders roles throughout school. Well done children, keep it up!

Year 4 Visit to Our lady’s High School.

As part of our cluster work with Our Lady’s High School Year 4 pupils will be visiting the high schools for the next 5 weeks on a Thursday afternoon.

During their visits they will be taking part in PE, Maths and Science St Anne’s is a good school – OFSTED 2013.

sessions. Pupils will be picked up at 1.30pm by mini bus and will return to school for 3pm (please be patient if they are slightly delayed on occasions due to traffic). This is a wonderful opportunity for them to experience high school and work with new teachers and, on occasions, past pupils. World's Biggest Coffee Morning On Friday 25th September at 9.00am, we will be holding our annual Macmillan Coffee Morning. We are asking families to donate cakes for the occasion which will be sold during the coffee morning and then, in the afternoon to pupils. In exchange for donations pupils may wear non uniform that day. Please try to support this very worthy cause. Thank You!
