Year 3 Parent Friendly Newsletter To those of you who have returned after the summer holidays, welcome back! To those who have joined us this year from other schools, welcome to St Anne’s! We hope you had a fantastic break and are looking forward to the new school term. Below is an overview of our first half term in year 3. Computing

Reading

The children are currently working on the unit ‘We are programmers’ which entails designing and creating an animation based upon St Anne’s and the gospel values.

It is recommended you read with your child on a daily basis. Please sign your child’s reading record each time you read with them.

Literacy

To help: question them on their understanding of the book they are reading. Numeracy

This half term we will focus on stories with familiar settings and information texts. The children will be developing their writing in both fiction and nonfiction genres. To help: encourage your child to write at home on areas they are interested in. Religious Education

We are focussing on several core areas in Maths this half term, along with developing new skills. To help: encourage your child to apply their mathematical knowledge in everyday situations (for example, at the supermarket). Science

Our current focus is our homes and the people in them. We will also begin to look at Judaism towards the end of the half term. Physical Education

For the next few weeks we are working on our topic ‘Mirror, Mirror’. The children are carrying out their own investigations to do with light and reflection. Geography

P.E. is held each Tuesday and Friday. The children’s P.E. kit will remain in school until the half-term break.

Our geography based learning challenge for this term is ‘Why do so many people go to the Mediterranean for their holiday?’ The children will have Mediterranean cross-curricular links with design and technology, music and art for this focus.

To help: Please ensure your child has the correct P.E. kit and it is labelled with their name. Language The children have begun learning Spanish this week and will continue to develop their skills in this area throughout the year.

Homework Spelling homework is set on a Wednesday and tested the following Monday. Learning log homework will be set on a Friday and due the following Thursday. Daily reading in the evening should occur as often as possible. Optional maths homework will be set online each week (active learn). One piece of maths or literacy homework will be set each week and due a week later. The children will keep a record of this in their homework planners.

If you have any queries then please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you for your continued support. Miss Thomason
