Year 2H Curriculum Overview - Autumn 1
Welcome to the new school year and welcome to Year 2. I’m Mrs Heslop the class teacher. Here you will find an overview of the things we will be learning in Autumn 1.
Maths We will be developing our mental calculation strategies particularly for addition, subtraction and doubling. Learning to order 2 and 3-digit numbers. We will revise number bonds to 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 20 and their related subtraction facts. We will revise 2D shapes and symmetry. We will look at addition, bridging through 10. Practising doubling numbers to 10 and introducing the signs < and >
English Each half term we will look at fiction, nonfiction and poetry. To begin with we will look at; stories in a familiar setting and then moving on to explanation texts.
Religion Our themes in Religion this half term are ‘Beginnings’ – God at every beginning and ‘Homes’- God’s dream for every family.
History & Geography Our theme for Topic this half term will be ‘What would Dora the Explorer find
Science We will start our science by looking at the topic ‘Move it’ for the half term, where we will be learning all about how solid objects from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching. PE The sole focus this half term will be games. There will be two sessions a week. One session will be taught by the Manchester United coaches who will teach the children a range of physical and personal skills.
