Year 1 Class Information
Reading Books Reading Books are monitored daily and changed when necessary. We do aim to change them three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday), however this depends on the child’s understanding. Please help your child to practise their reading book every night (just a few pages or a short story) and sign and date the blue record book, showing the page reached or book finished. There is room to write a comment about your child’s reading which will help us to monitor their progress. In most of the reading books there are questions and activities in the front and back covers which will help to develop your child’s comprehension skills. These only take a few minutes to complete and can really help your child to progress with their reading. In Year 1 we will visit our school Library every Wednesday where we will be able to change or renew our book. Each child will be expected to have their library book in school on a Wednesday. PE PE lessons are held on Monday and Wednesday. Please make sure that your child has the full PE Kit in school, kept in a PE bag, hung on their coat peg. PE Kit consists of: House T shirt, shorts, pumps or trainers, sweatshirt and jogging bottoms (for Outdoor activities during the Autumn / Early Spring Term). Earrings need to be removed for PE, if your child can’t do this themselves please do it at home before they come to school. Homework Homework in Year 1 mainly consists of reading book work. Throughout the year we will progress on to weekly spelling tests which will be linked to our weekly Phonics.
