School Behaviour Policy and how it affects your child.

Our Behaviour Policy With the support of our School Council and School Chaplain’s we have made a few changes to our School Behaviour Policy.

We expect our children to behave well at all times, however we do understand that as children grow and develop they will make mistakes: our behaviour policy aims to support and encourage children in developing positive behaviour. Here are the Key features.

The Traffic Light System In each class we have a traffic light system this helps children see the development of their behaviour each day.

GOLD – Outstanding behaviour SILVER – Exceptional behaviour Green- Expected behaviour – each child starts here everyday AMBER – Warning, children need to think about their behaviour and make changes.

RED – Poor behaviour choices.

Rewarding Gospel Values Through the work we undertook with the children before the summer term we have now linked our Gold and Silver awards to Gospel Values; encouraging our children to live their lives like Jesus did. Each month we will focus on a different value: September – Acceptance We accept new people and welcome them into our lives October – Nurturing We support each other in developing new friendships and skills November – Patience We have patience with one another and help each other to develop

December – Hope We try hard to overcome difficulties and hope to succeed January – Peace We work with one another to develop school co-operation February – Trust We trust in each other to try new challenges March – Mercy We offer each other forgiveness when somebody hurts us

April – Joy We celebrate each other’s achievements May – Caring We share and care for one another June – Friendship We show kindness through playing with each other July – Strive We try to achieve all our goals, through determination

Gold and Silver can also be awarded at any time for other outstanding behaviour/work.

Children, who receive this award, will be presented with a certificate at their key stage assembly each week and a star will be placed in the hall with their name on.

To continually encourage and reward children with good behaviour there will also be other rewards presented such as, verbal praise, class rewards, stickers and prizes and class reward time, as set by the teacher.

For children who remain on green throughout each half term there will be a special ‘Golden Time’ arranged by the school council.

Red behaviour

Unfortunately children sometimes make mistakes, the red level of the behaviour policy helps children to recognise where they have gone wrong and gives them the time and support they need to reflect and learn from their behaviour.

If your child is placed on Red, they will be asked to talk to a senior member of staff about their behaviour and will receive a red letter explaining their behaviour and how you might support them. Often the staff handing you the letter at home time will be unaware of the context of the letter. If you would like to discuss the letter please ask to see your child’s phase leader or a senior member of staff. If a child does receive a red letter they will miss some or all of the end of term ‘Golden Time’, however they will still be included in other reward opportunities to enable them to stay motivated about behaviour.

If a child receives three red letters you will be asked to come into school for a meeting with the head teacher. However, if at any point you have concerns about behaviour school is always there to support. Children who continue to struggle may need extra support and will be placed on an individual Behaviour Plan.

We believe our children at St Anne’s consistently demonstrate outstanding behaviour. We are proud to work with them and hope they continue to develop in this way.
