I hope you have all enjoyed the holidays and that your child has returned to school ready for another year of hard work and fun!

I am sure you will agree that the refurbishment work and new upper Key Stage 2 areas look wonderful. Pupils have been shown around the school today and are very impressed.

New doors have been fitted to the front of school and can be accessed via a telephone intercom. They have been designed to improve school security including the safety of pupils and staff. Please try to avoid paying money at the office as there is very little room in the foyer. All money coming into school should be handed into your child’s teacher at the classroom door (in an envelope with your child’s name, amount and reason for payment on the front) and this will then be sent to the office and a receipt/change issued.

Alternatively, please use the school’s online payment system ‘School Gateway’.

Welcome During our morning assembly we welcomed three new teachers (Miss Walker Year 1, Miss Moloney Year 5 and Miss Thomason Year 3) and several new children. We hope that they enjoy being part of our St Anne’s family and we will all play our part in making sure they feel welcome in our school.

Year 6 Parent Meeting- Mrs Clegg will be holding a brief meeting for parents on Monday 7th September 3.00pm until 3.15pm. This is to welcome your child to Year 6 and discuss the expectations and challenges for your child’s final year in primary school, before moving on to secondary education.

Worship Last year, our schools Chaplains worked hard developing a school prayer that expressed our school values. This year’s chaplains have changed the prayer slightly with the words ‘ this school’ replaced with ‘St Anne’s’. The school prayer is displayed in the hall but if you would like to practise it with your child you will find the words at the end of the newsletter.

Our first school Mass of this new academic year is on Tuesday 29 th September at 9.10am.

Welfare St Anne’s monitors pupils’ attendance and punctuality on a regular basis, along with the Local Authority. With effect from 1st September 2015 the Department of Education (DFE) states that if a child’s attendance is 90% or below during the academic year they are considered as persistently absent and that this can directly affect their progress in school.

Persistent absence is a serious problem for pupils. Much of the work they miss when they are off school is never made up, leaving these pupils at a considerable disadvantage for the remainder of their school career. There is also clear evidence of a link between poor attendance at school and low levels of achievement. Please ensure your child attends school regularly.

All classes will open their class doors at 8.45am this year, to encourage good punctuality.

Doors will close promptly at 8.55am when the school bell signals that the school day has begun and the registration begins. If you arrive at your child’s classroom door after 8.55am your child is late and must be taken round to the main office. Please do not knock on the windows as you will be disturbing the class. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Please remember it is illegal to park on the yellow lines outside school when dropping off and picking children up. These lines are there for our pupils’ safety. The Local Authority is having clamp down this year and repeat offenders will be reported to the traffic warden/police. Please park a little further away and keep all our children safe!

The majority of our EYFS completed Paediatric First Aid training over the holidays. A full list of school first aid staff is displayed in the entrance foyer.

Earrings should not be worn in school at all. If your child has had their ears pierced over the holidays they must wear plaster over them until they are healed and they removed for school. This is for health and safety reasons and to protect pupils from injury in school time.

School Meals, Universal Free School Meals are available for pupils in Reception to the end of Year 2. Once a child moves into Year 3, school meals must be paid for; these must be paid in advance so that school meal debts are avoided. The cost is £11.25 a week per child. If you are unsure of whether you can claim free school meals please contact the school office staff who will be please to help with your enquiry.

Word This morning we have explained our new behaviour policy to all our pupils, this has also been discussed in each class. The new behaviour policy is based on Gospel Values and was written in conjunction with staff, pupils and parents. Gold Star Certificates will be given each week to pupils chosen by their teachers as demonstrating the value of the month in school. This month’s focus is ‘Acceptance.’ Certificates will also be given to children for other reasons such as work, behaviour, effort etc. Mrs Radcliffe will be sending home a leaflet explaining the policy to you next week; you can also find the full policy (along with the school calendar, newsletters, announcements) on the school website.

This year, we will be using a new RE scheme, ‘Come and See’ along with ‘The Way the Truth and the Light’ and the ‘Caritas in Action’ documentation when teaching religious education. Mrs Regan will be sending out more information in her RE letter next week.

Our Chaplains and newly appointed class RE ambassadors will be supporting in classes and assemblies as usual; we have also been lucky enough to have been built a space for a quiet prayer/reflection area within the new build. This was in lots of use today!
