How to support your child’s learning at home:  Please make sure that you look at, and sign, your child’s journal every week.  Listen to your child read for 10 minutes every day.  Help them to learn their times tables.  Ensure that your child completes their homework.  Provide your child with a quiet place to

work/read.

Don’t forget that the children will either be going swimming or doing PE on Wednesday. Please make sure that your child has the correct clothing.

Homework goes home on a Friday and is due in by Tuesday.

Spellings go home on Friday to be tested the following Friday.

Curriculum Overview Year 4 Summer Term 2

Maths: Over the next half term Year 4 Science Our topic this half term is Material Properties and their Changes. The children will be looking at comparing and grouping materials and investigating changes of state between solids, liquids and gases. Children will explore reversible changes. We also use sieving and filtration to separate different materials. Children will be able to carry out a fair test investigation on keeping a liquid warm.

will develop their mathematical skills in various areas. They will develop their counting and sequencing skills by solving word problems and applying the learning to other areas of Math such as Handling Data. Year 4 will also be studying decimals and fractions in the context of measures. We will also be measuring and calculating the perimeter of shapes in cm and m.

English: The focus for our Literacy work this half term is persuasion. Children will explore a range of persuasive techniques through looking at advertising leaflets and posters and watching a range of TV adverts. We will create slogans and use these on advertising posters. Towards the end of the topic children will write scripts and create their own TV adverts to persuaded people to visit the country they have been studying in class.

ICT: Children will be using I Pads and the I Movie app to create TV adverts. They will develop skills enabling them to upload videos and pictures; as well as inserting audio to enhance their work.

Enrichment: This term will be going on a ‘Summer Holiday’. Children will learn all about another country and take part in activities you might complete on a Summer Holiday.

Children will also be visiting Victoria Park to explore the local environment.

Creative Curriculum: This half term each class will be studying a different country. Children will be able to locate their country on a world map and know about its most famous land marks.

We will look at how the traditions and cultures are different to ours. We will also celebrate the 800th birthday of the Magna Carta and create a modern day list of rights.

PE: Boys will continue swimming sessions.

Please make sure that your child has the correct equipment and arrives no later than 8:40 am. If they are late they will not be able to go.
