Headteacher – Mrs A Gray Reception Class Trip to Blackpool Zoo Caterpillar class visited Blackpool Zoo on Tuesday 16th June and what a fantastic time we had. The weather was brilliant and the animals were all enjoying a relax in the sun. We enjoyed our lunch while watching the sealion show and got to meet some penguins up close thanks to Miss McKnight's friend. The monkeys really put on a show and seemed excited to see us, as did the peacock showing off his beautiful feathers. The lemurs on the other hand clearly needed a snooze and didn't bother to move. The children loved every minute and would love to go back. They were brilliant and a real credit to our school!!

Miss McCormick and Alexa-May couldn't resist a sunglasses selfie.

On Monday 15th June Y6 went to Liverpool Cathedral to attend a leavers’ service. Many other C of E schools, who are from the diocese, took part in this event. The Cathedral was overwhelming as it was so big. Three of our children had jobs to perform during the service. John carried our school banner; Rhiannon offered a prayer to the Prayer Tree and Che was responsible for lighting a candle for our school. Throughout the service Winwick School Choir sang. They were very lucky to get that opportunity. We learned new songs called – My Lighthouse and My Guardian. We also learned actions to these songs and look forward to teaching them to the rest of the school. We had a brilliant day. Mrs Gray was reported as saying, ”Our children were the best behaved there.” By Phillip, Peter and John

Edge Hill University LRS Conference On Friday 12th June, a group of extremely brave and sensible KS2 children attended a technology conference at Edge Hill University for the day. They had planned and created an interactive presentation which they then delivered to around 20 teachers, lecturers and academics to show how Bishop Martin use our LRS devices (or B-Pods as we like to call them!) in Y5 and Y6. They were absolutely outstanding, very professional and even humorous in their delivery! The audience loved the presentation and gave them a huge round of applause, after which, the children had a day of sports, art work and a lovely lunch! Well done and thank you to Koby and Che(Lions), Shaunna (Dolphins) and Lily-Grace (Giraffes)!

Head Lice There has been a report of head lice in our school. “Head lice are tiny insects that live in human hair. They're particularly common in children. Head lice are whitish to grey-brown in colour, and smaller than the size of a pinhead when first hatched. When fully grown they're about the size of a sesame seed. They can't fly, jump or swim and are spread by head-to-head contact, climbing from the hair of an infected person to the hair of someone else. A head lice infestation isn't the result of dirty hair or poor hygiene. All types of hair can be affected, regardless of its length and condition.” (www.nhs.uk) Please check your child’s hair tonight and treat if necessary. For more information please see website above.
