English Resources In English we follow the new National Curriculum. Throughout the school we use a range of resources to cover these objectives. For phonics we follow the Letters and Sounds programme and use other resources such as Jolly Phonics and Phonics Play to deliver these objectives. In reading we have a range of Guided Reading resources such as Rising Stars, Lighthouse, Rigby Star, Starquest, Snapdragons, Project X, Fireflies, Info Trail, Navigator, Oxford Reading Tree, Floppy’s Phonics and Treetops. We also use Badger Learning Guided Reading Resources with ‘real books’ in KS2. Our homework reading scheme is Oxford Reading Tree (a mixture of phonics and non-phonics based texts). Once children have exceeded white band in reading, they choose their own homework reading book, at the appropriate level, from the library. We use the Accelerated Reader resource for this and children take quizzes on the texts they have read, to enable teachers to monitor progress. In writing we again use a range of resources to deliver the curriculum. These include; Literacy and Language from Read Write Inc., Hamilton Trust, The Literacy Shed and Talk for Writing. For Spelling and Grammar we use the Assertive Mentoring Resources to ensure complete coverage and support this with teaching using resources from Rising Stars and Literacy and Language. Handwriting is taught following the School Handwriting Policy. No scheme is used for this. Interventions used to ‘catch up’ pupils at risk of falling behind in English include; Inference Training, Write Away Together, X Code, Fischer Family Trust, Better Reading Partners, Race to English, Toe by Toe and Word Shark.
