Choosing Your Courses

2015

From September 2015 a student‟s core programme, here at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College, will be the equivalent of three Level 3 courses (GCE A level or BTEC). Following two days of pre-enrolment lessons you will want to reflect on your experience and in August, at your enrolment interview, we will ask you to confirm your decisions on which courses to take. Please remember the following points when considering your final decision. To follow an advanced programme you must achieve at least five GCSEs, or equivalent, at C grade or above.

Three advanced level courses

To do a 2Plus level course, you must achieve GCSEs in the E/D/C region, with probably not more than four or five GCSEs at C grade or above.

Tutorial

If you do not achieve at least a C grade in English and/or Maths, you will be required to take these subjects as part of your core programme. Some courses have additional specific entry requirements. You can check them on page 5 of this leaflet. Talk to your teachers at college and the Student Support Team as they are there to help you make the right choices and so make a good head start in September.

Extend & Enrich

Extend and Enrich In addition to your three Level 3 courses (GCE A level or BTEC) we will expect you to consider one of the following Extend and Enrich courses available. There is no need to make a choice now as this will be done at your enrolment interview in August. There are 5 groups of courses and each will enhance your chosen study programme and support your progression route in different ways.
