20th April 2015 To Parents/Carers of students who will be joining the school in September 2015 Dear Parents/Carers, On behalf of the staff, students and the governors, we would like to offer your child a warm welcome to our School. We are aware of the responsibility we have for your child’s welfare, happiness and progress, a responsibility we will share with you for at least the next five years and hopefully longer. We hope this partnership between us will soon develop and that you will quickly become proud of your association with Ashton Community Science College. Our School We believe it is essential that if your child is to gain the most from their time with us, we must develop a partnership in which we all work together to ensure that they are happy and work to their full potential. For our part, we will keep you fully informed about the School and share with you our thoughts in whatever way we can. The school website provides a wealth of information about our school in general, but you will be given a Welcome Pack for your child at the New Parents Evening on Thursday 18th June, which will contain all the essential information you need to help your child make a successful start in September. Please let us know if you are unable to attend this evening so that we can make alternative arrangements with you. Teachers from Ashton regularly visit local primary schools and some of them may already be known to your child. In the near future, Mrs Barrow and Mrs Barker, who have specific responsibility for all Year Seven students, will be visiting the primary schools to discuss our new students with their present teachers and also talk to the girls and boys about their new school. Admission Forms We obviously want to discover all we can about our new students in advance so that we can make our preparations for the new term in September. Whilst the information we receive from primary schools is very important, we also need information from you as parents. We have included an admission form which we would like you to complete. If your child attends Lea Community, Lea Endowed, Roebuck, St. Andrew’s, Cottam or Ashton, please return all the forms to the Headteacher of your child’s primary school. In all other cases, please send the form directly to us. It would be appreciated if all forms could be returned by Tuesday 16th June at the latest. We welcome your views on your child’s interests and talents as you see them. You might also like to mention any potential difficulties your child may have. As students are divided into a number of forms, parents sometimes take the opportunity to request that children who have not got on well together in their primary school class should be in different forms. Each form will, of course, contain a full range of abilities and, in this respect, no form will be “better” or “worse” than any other.
