Caritas In Action Caritas in Action has been designed by Salford Diocese to assist schools in the delivery of Social Teaching of the Catholic Church. Catholic Social Teaching is not an optional extra in our school but is central to our faith, and is based on our understanding that human life and dignity as people made in the image and likeness of God. There are seven themes within the Caritas in Action document that are taught in school. 1. Dignity of the Human Person; every person’s life and dignity must be respected and supported from conception until the end of their natural life on earth. 2. Family and Community: the human person is not only sacred, but social. Every person has a right to work to support themselves and their families as well as the building up of the common good of all. 3. Solidarity and the Common Good; We are all people of God. At the heart of solidarity is the pursuit of justice and peace. The dignity of every person is respected. 4. Dignity of Work; work in a way which we can continue to participate in God’s creation. Everyone has the right to productive work, to fair and liveable wages. 5. Rights and Responsibility; every person has a fundamental right to life. Everyone has the right to food, health care, housing, education and employment. We all need to strive to secure and respect these rights for others both locally and globally. 6. Poor and Vulnerable; society is judged on how it cares for and stands with the poor and vulnerable. The Church calls us to respond to the cry of the poor and put their needs first. 7. Stewardship; God has been entrusted the world to everyone and we are responsible and accountable to God as stewards of the earth. (Information taken from Caritas in Action Documentation 2014).
