3D will be learning to: • use subordinating conjunctions to create complex sentences. • draw an image by inferring information from a piece of text. • describe a fantasy setting. • choose relevant ideas and content to add an extra chapter to the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. • choose relevant and ambitious vocabulary. • open some sentences with action. • draft, edit and improve a fantasy story. • create a persuasive advertisement for a new Wonka chocolate bar or sweet.
In this term, most of the children in 3D will be making their Holy Communion. This will be their final step in their Sacramental journey this year. During the Summer term 3D’ will be looking at a different world religion. The religion we will be looking at is Judaism. During this unit we will focus on making the links between Judaism and our own Catholic faith. In addition to this the children will explore: • Key events in the life of Moses and his importance to Jews. • How the Ten Commandments express a relationship with God and a guide for living. • How and why Passover is celebrated today. • Some Jewish beliefs about God. • That the Torah is the Holy book in Judaism and compare this to the Christian Holy Book. • The way in which prayer and blessings is significant to the Jewish way of life and how this relates to their own way of life.

Challenge - How far can you throw your shadow?
This term we will be focusing our learning on understand geographical similarities and differences through the study of human and physical geography of a region or area in a European country. We will be exploring the following questions: • What are the advantages/ disadvantages of living in a Mediterranean country? • Why do Mediterranean countries have a warmer climate than we do? • Which fruits and vegetables are produced in the Mediterranean? • How can we organise a Mediterranean food festival? • How would you go about attracting someone to visit a Mediterranean country? • Why doesn’t everyone speak English and use the same money? • Who are the famous artists of the Mediterranean and what can we learn from them? • Which European cities can we associate with different types of music?
During our PE lessons in the summer term we will be taking part and learning new skills about track and field events. We will learn to: • work on our speed, ability and quickness. • be able to sprint correctly from a starting position. Our theme within PSHE is Core Theme 2: Relationships • to recognise and respond appropriately to a wider range of feelings in others • to recognise what constitutes a positive, healthy relationship and develop the skills to form and maintain positive and healthy relationships • to recognise ways in which a relationship can be unhealthy and who to talk to if they need support.
Maths
Children in 3D will learn to: • recognise that they need light in order to see things and that dark is the absence of light • notice that light is reflected from surfaces • recognise that light from the Sun can be dangerous and that there are ways to protect their eyes • recognise that shadows are formed when the light from a light source is blocked by a solid object • find patterns in the way that the size of shadows change. • Set up a fair test to see what happens when there is more than one source of light and record findings. Looking for patterns in what happens to shadows when the light source moves or the distance between the light source and the object changes.
PE
• be able to throw small pieces of athletic equipment for distance. • be able to jump for distance using a set footwork pattern. • be able to run for distance. • perform in a mini sports day using events and techniques shown.
In 3D we will use search technologies effectively to research about the Mediterranean based on our geography topic. Additionallt the children will be taught how to create effective PowerPoints and use the features on the programme. All children will be taught the importance of how to use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly.

During 3D’s weekly Spanish lessons the children will be listening and responding in Spanish, they will be exploring the language through stories, songs, poems and rhymes. They will be taught how to converse; ask and answer questions. 3D should be able to speak in sentences, express their ideas and describe things orally. They will understand written words and phrases, and broaden their vocabulary.
Number- during this term the children will be recalling their multiplication and division facts for all multiplication tables up to 12. To solve problems, including missing number problems, using number facts, place value, and more complex addition and subtraction. In addition they will solve addition and subtraction two-step problems in contexts, deciding which operations and methods to use and why. 3D will also continue to multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000. Measurement – To measure, compare, add and subtract: lengths (m/cm/mm); mass (kg/g); volume/capacity (l/ml). Convert between different units of measure.
Geography & Art
As well as weekly spelling, grammar and handwriting lessons, this term 3D will be looking at the books Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The World of Food.
