This is the April 2015 edition of the WOW Newsletter. In this edition you will get an insight into the WOW events ACE have organised and participated in, as well as upcoming events. The Newsletter also aims to advise students what WOW deadlines are approaching & to provide careers tips & guidance.
RECENT EVENTS Sandwell SIPS and Apprentices from William King and Adecco Careers Over 30 students from year 10 and post 16 attended a careers talk to raise awareness in careers in High Value Manufacturing and Engineering. This was organised to encourage students to consider choosing these careers to address a shortfall in and across the Black Country region.
The Commercial Vehicle Show— 16 students from year 13, who wanted to explore further career pathways as they finish year 13, attended The Commercial Vehicle Show at the NEC which was hosted by Leyland DAF to take part in various activities. The Day involved a presentation about the range of careers within the logistics sector. The students also took part in a challenge and learnt about the logistics challenges as a whole as well as browsing stands within the show.
Skills Factory Engineering Visit — The aim of this visit was to raise awareness of careers within Manufacturing and Engineering and hopefully address the shortfall of High Value Manufacturing skills across the Black Country. The theme of the visit was ‘Women in Engineering’; this was to ensure a captive audience when highlighting the need for females in this industry. Students were given the opportunity to explore various job roles within this industry and to practically to apply knowledge and skills whilst completing a number of tasks involving electricity and Computer Aided Design (CAD)
