Friday 8th May 2015

Dear Readers It’s a historic week. This year we celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the end of Hitler’s War that brought so much misery, with the victory of good over evil occurring at 23.01 on the 8th May 1945 when German forces surrendered unconditionally. This year at 3pm a national two minute silence will fall on the country as politicians gather at the Whitehall Cenotaph before over 100 beacons are lit across the country. Here in school, we will be finishing at 3.02pm rather than 3.00pm on Friday to create the opportunity for all staff and students to take part in this national act of remembrance. On Sunday morning, the Royal Family, the Armed Forces and Allied and Commonwealth leaders attend a service at Westminster Abbey before a parade and reception at St. James Park. If you tune in to this on TV, you will be able to see a historic fly past by Hurricanes, Spitfires and Lancaster Bombers. Of course, there is also the small matter of a General Election, and by the time you read this, it will all be over bar the shouting. Let’s hope the great British public choose wisely.

Best Wishes Sharon Asquith Principal
