FAQ What is School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT)?
SCITTs are schools which have been given government approval to run their own training programmes. They provide practical, hands-on teacher training programmes, taught by experienced, and practising teachers in their group of neighbouring schools and colleges.
What Professional Skills tests do I need to complete and how many school experience days do I need ? To be able to enrol on our SCITT course you must complete a literacy and numeracy professional skills test. You do not need to take the tests prior to your interview, but you will need to pass the tests to be able to take up a place on our programme. What are QTS and PGCE and what qualification do I get with the Fylde Coast TS SCITT programme? QTS is the qualification you will get with our programme. QTS means Qualified Teacher Status and that you have met the statutory requirements for teaching in the UK. You need QTS to teach in maintained schools in the UK. With QTS you can also teach in academies and free schools. PGCE means Postgraduate Certificate in Education and is an additional academic qualification which included QTS. You do not need a PGCE to teach, in England and Wales.
How much does the Fylde Coast TS SCITT programme cost? The fee for our one year programme is £6000
What financial support is available to trainees ? Most trainees’ tuition fees are paid by a mixture of tuition fee loans from Student Finance England and Training Bursaries For full information about the bursaries, scholarships and loans available to those enrolling on a teacher training programme for 2015/2016 please go to the following website
You will need to complete a minimum of 10 days school experience prior to the start of the programme. You do not have to complete these days before your interview, but it will be set as a condition of any offer made by us. If you need help with arranging any school experience please contact us.
Who do we train ?
Our trainees vary from being recent graduates to career changers and they are from different backgrounds: highpowered careers, raising a family, working as teaching assistant, and cover supervisors or coming straight out of university.
What is involved in the Fylde Coast TS SCITT programme ? To become a qualified teacher, you need to successfully complete teacher training. As a result you will achieve a QTS. Our teacher training course includes : * a minimum of 24 weeks in at least two of our Alliance Schools to give you practical classroom experience * academic study to give you knowledge and understanding to teach successfully * an assessment of your teaching skills through lesson observations

When is the closing date for the application ?
Applications to our SCITT programme can be made until September 2015 through UCAS, but we will close each subject on UCAS as soon as we fill the spaces available. If you find that the subject you are looking for is still open, you are still in time to apply.
By the end of a teacher training course you should : * know and understand the national curriculum in your chosen subject(s) and/or age group *be able to plan and prepare lessons and set pupils’ learning objectives * have strong classroom management skills * know how to teach pupils with special educational needs and disabilities * be able to assess pupils effectively
What if I hold non-British qualifications ? What does the interview day entail ?
* a 10 minute micro teach in front of a group of pupils * a subject skills test * a literacy test * a formal inteview
If you hold a degree or other qualification from a non-UK institution, you must verify their equivalence through the National Recognition Information Centre for the UK (UK Naric) - Tel : 01242 260 010. You will also need to supply written evidence of this information with your application.
