Ashton Highlights Newsletter 25

Friday 24th April 2015

Dear Readers, The weather has been very kind to us so far this term, with the sunshine bringing out the best in everyone. Students are enjoying being out on the field at long last and we are seeing lunchtime football matches worthy of Deepdale (or so I am reliably informed by the players of those matches…) The grassed area at the front of the school has become a lunchtime picnic area and students are taking full advantage of their environment as they lunch and catch up with friends before the next round of learning and challenge begins. The warm weather also brings with it a need for me to remind the students of our expectations regarding dress and personal presentation. We do not have a summer and winter uniform as such, but what we do have is a common sense approach to warm weather that means we relax the requirement to wear a jumper when it gets hot. Shirts and ties remain for the boys, with the expectation that they will be worn properly; shirts tucked in and ties fastened to the top button. Girls wear blouses that can be outside their skirt if it is a fitted style and tucked in if it is a loose shirt style. To avoid confusion, all students should bring their jumper to school each day and we will declare the day to be a “non-jumper day” so that those who wish to remove it can do so. Jumpers can then be transported in school bags throughout the day. Training shoes are not acceptable as footwear during the normal school day, unless for PE and black shoes should be worn. Such is the unpredictability of our British weather that I would not be surprised if by the time you read this, it is cold and raining! As always I appreciate your support in helping the school to maintain the high standards of dress that have become the norm. Best wishes Sharon Asquith
