SCIENCE Our Science topic is Materials and we will be investigating what different materials feel like and their strengths and properties. We will be undertaking an investigation to see which material would have been the best for the three little pig houses. BROAD LEARNING INTENTIONS:  To distinguish between an object and the   

ENGLISH

PHONICS: (Delivered through daily timetabled sessions using Read Write Inc /Guided Reading) • • • •

To respond speedily with the correct sounds to graphemes for all taught phonemes. To read accurately by blending sounds in unfamiliar words containing phonemes already taught To read common exception words (red words) To read aloud accurately books that are consistent with their developing phonic knowledge and that do not require them to use other strategies to work out words. READING: (Delivered through Shared whole class reading) • To listen to a wide range of poems, stories and non-fiction texts beyond their own reading level • To become very familiar with key stories, retelling them and considering their particular characteristics

Use simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the geography of the school and the key human and physical features of its surrounding environment Ask and answer geographical questions (such as: What is this place like? What or who will I see in this place? What do people do in this place?) Identify land use around the school. Devise a simple map

PE The children will have one PE session per week delivered by our Sports Leader Mr Feighan. Focus: Multi Sports games.

BROAD LEARNING INTENTIONS:  

To master basic movements e.g. running, throwing, balance, agility and co-ordination To participate in team games.

This topic is designed to develop children’s knowledge and understanding of the Resurrection of Jesus and its message. The children will learn that Easter is the most important Christian feast because Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday. They will learn about the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost and reflect on times when their own sadness turned to joy. They will be introduced to Thomas the apostle and reflect on the importance of his story.

WRITING: 

To write sentences by saying out loud what they are going to write about and composing the sentence orally before writing it.  To re-read what they have written to check that it makes sense. HANDWRITING: (Delivered through timetabled sessions using our new Nelson Handwriting Scheme)  To develop a comfortable and efficient pencil grip  To form lower case letters and capital letters correctly, starting and finishing in the correct place.

COLLECTIVE WORSHIP: Each week we have a different

SPELLING AND GRAMMAR:  To add ‘ing’, ‘ed’, ‘er’ and ‘est’ to words.  To make plural words by adding ‘s’ and ‘es’ to words.  To say the letters of the alphabet.  To write the days of the week.  To add ‘un’ to a word to make an opposite word.

To continue to develop their knowledge and understanding of the properties of number such as number bonds and ordering numbers.  To be able to add and subtract using numbers up to 20.  To solve simple mathematical word problems.  To write numbers in words to twenty. MENTAL MATHEMATICS: (Daily focus on core skills)  To know umber bonds to 20.  To know doubles and halves of numbers up to 10 + 10  To count in multiples of twos, fives and tens.

To recognise and name common 3D shapes

NUMBER- Fractions:  

To recognise, find and name a half as one of two equal parts of a shape. To recognise, find and name a quarter as one of four equal parts of a shape.
